It’s often thought of as the official kick-off to summer: Royal Ascot is in full swing this week in the U.K. King Charles was there, so was Queen Camilla, but a royal who was not on our bingo card in terms of showing up? Sarah Ferguson (Fergie!), the Duchess of York. She joined her daughters Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice for day two of the horse racing event looking quite posh in a white-and-navy outfit that definitely stood out in the crowd. Still, it was her Veronica Beard ‘Kensington’ jacket ($448; $314) that caught our eye—and absolutely anchored the look.

It’s the light structure of the style, but also what reads—thank to the pockets—as a bit of a peplum fit. It’s actually just a slight flare at the hem, but in its mid-weight knit, the jacket is so flattering, especially as Fergie wears it, paired with a midi-length skirt. About those pockets: In addition to the buttons, they help add dimension that feels sleek and stylish. Credit to Fergie: This piece is a great (and versatile!) find.
Back to Ascot: It was truly a delight to see Fergie step out alongside her kids and son-in-law, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. More proof that the king likes (and enjoys) having Fergie, the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, in the royal mix? It seems so.
One more note about Fergie’s royal style. It may be coincidental, but we very much appreciate the royal nod (ahem, the Kensington) found within the jacket’s name. Just like we recently pointed out with Meghan Markle’s attire, there’s a creative cleverness to that type of sartorial overlap. We’re here for it.
