PureWow/Retailers

The most wonderful time of the year has arrived, and no, I’m not talking about Christmas. The Madewell Black Friday sale is here with a 30 percent discount sitewide—including new arrivals—through Nov. 27. This is the perfect opportunity to get your gift shopping done early (even if you're at the top of your own list—I won't tell), since plenty of coats, sweaters and scarves are on sale. Of course, I’m filling my cart as I speak, starting with the PureWow reader-favorite The Petite Harlow Wide-Leg Pant (was $118, now $83), The Anelise Ballet Flats (was $110, now $77) and this Merino Wool Boyfriend Cardigan (was $128, now $90) that reminds me a lot of a certain Jenni Kayne best seller.

After spending hours scouring the site for la crème de la crème styles, here are 13 pieces I recommend scooping up this season. Just be sure to act fast, because in my experience, items usually sell out quickly during Madewell sales.

These pants are a PureWow reader favorite—especially among petites. PureWow Senior Editor Dana Dickey raves about them, saying: “My petite Harlow wide leg pants are my go-to for a daily pant that’s as comfortable as lightweight sweatpants but is polished and flattering. The Tencel fabric flows nicely, so it doesn’t make my petite figure look too thick. I especially like the brick color for a sophisticated look with a blouse or a blazer. All this, plus it’s machine washable.” The style is universally flattering, available in standard, petite, plus and tall iterations from US 00 to 16. In addition to the brick-hued Acorn color, you can also pick them up in black and cream (dubbed Harvest Moon).

Bucket totes are on the upswing this year, and according to social media sensation and master leatherworker Tanner Leatherstein, Madewell makes great bags that find the happy medium between quality and price. This bucket tote is available in seven colors, from black, charcoal and chocolate to cinnamon, amber and forest green. The leather is certified by the Leather Working Group, an organization that ensures sustainable industry practices. It has a magnetic closure, thick adjustable strap and one interior pocket, and also comes in a medium rendition. Whether you’re tossing your (15-inch) laptop into it and running to the office or are dressing up for a night out, the tote is the versatile accessory you need—and it’s under $150.

A T-shirt is a staple in the capsule wardrobe, and this vintage cut nods perfectly to the ‘80s while still being timeless. While you can never go wrong with white, black, brown, gray, Bordeaux and ivy are also available shades. The cut is just a tad shrunken, but still tuckable, and you can add a monogram for a fun personalization. With a 4.5-star average rating and nearly 2,000 rave reviews, it’s both a Madewell and PureWow reader favorite.

Ballet flats still reign supreme, and the Anelise is a great option for those who want a slight twist on a classic leather style shape. “I love the more modern squared toe,” writes one Madewell customer who went on to rave about the leather’s flexibility and softness. “It's not overly exaggerated at all like I've seen with some others.” They’re also made with the brand’s famous Cloudlift Lite padding, so you can bet they’re extremely comfortable to wear and walk in, too.

Mary Janes are also on the upswing, and I have a hunch it’s partially thanks to Taylor Swift and her penchant to go preppy in the fall. Indeed, toward the end of the summer she was spotted rocking platform Mary Janes…with socks. But earlier in the summer, she strolled through Lake Como in a more sensible (and flatter) Versace pair. If you’re dying to adopt the style yourself, The Greta is a super-comfortable option, available in 15 colors with Madewell’s signature Cloudlift padding that’ll keep you on your feet all day. The brand advises ordering a half size down, as the leather will stretch. The square toe and elastic strap finish the polished look.

I never say no to a good wool sweater, and it’s hard to go wrong with a classic boyfriend cardigan. Madewell’s is 100 percent merino wool with hand patch pockets and relaxed V-neck cut. It’s a favorite amongst shoppers, with buyers raving about the quality and design. “They’re soft, have decent patch pockets and look good buttoned or open,” one writes. “I’ve also worn them around my neck and am continuing to enjoy and reach for them.” The sweater comes in three colors: black, cobalt and lead. It’s easy to layer or wear on its own, so don’t be surprised if this quickly becomes a closet staple. Although, heads up: It’s dry clean only.

I love a good pair of wide-leg pants, and this vintage number also happens to be a PureWow reader petite favorite. The pants are available in tall, petite, standard and plus-size iterations and in four washes. The loose fit gives off an effortless ‘90s vibe, with a high (and smoothing) waist, plus the Magic Pockets that *actually* hold things. (IYKYK.)

PureWow readers also couldn’t get enough of these wide-leg crop jeans in the Altoona wash, and the style is also incredibly popular with Madewell shoppers. These slouchy pants feature a high waist, the brand’s signature Magic Pockets and a little stretch that gives them that broken-in feel. In addition to the old-school Altoona wash, you can also pick up a pair in cream. (And let me tell you: A pair of cream of white jeans will change your life, speaking from experience.)

Another indispensable addition to your capsule wardrobe is a pair of leather loafers, and now’s your chance to snag a pair for under $120. The Grayson presently has a perfect track record with buyers, seeing a solid five out of five-star rating. “I’ve been on the hunt for some solid everyday loafers, and these are the holy grail,” one raves. “They are wide enough for my feet without letting my heels slip. And they are just so cute!” Indeed, this timeless pair can be styled both casually and dressed up—just add tights. The heel comes in at just under two inches for a modest lift, and you can choose from four colors.

Mini bags are everywhere, and so is the color red. You can be doubly on-trend with this little number, which also comes in an additional eight colors, from gold to blue and forest green. The leather crescent-shaped handbag has just enough space for the essentials (phone, keys, wallet, lipstick) with an interior pocket. And, did I mention that it’s under $100?

Ilona Maher and Taylor Swift have made this the season of the rugby shirt, and this wine-colored option from Madewell checks two boxes. (The other being that burgundy is *the* color of the season.) With its relaxed fit, contrasting collar and drop sleeves, it’s a cozy, slouchy addition to your closet that you can wear for seasons to come. Layer it over a T-shirt or on its own, tucked into a pair of the wide-leg pants on this list.

12. Madewell Peacoat

Madewell

I have it on good authority from a street style photographer that the 2010s are coming back, and one of the main features was the peacoat. (And skinny jeans and infinity scarves.) Though I personally gravitate towards longer coats, I’m a bit obsessed with this cropped peacoat with an exaggerated notched collar and welted front pockets. It feels like a fresh take on a classic style—updated, but still something I can wear in three seasons. It’s also 65 percent wool, which is the minimum percentage I look for when buying a blend to still ensure maximum coziness.

Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can’t still wear a dress. I’m loving this long-sleeved corduroy number, which is a fun take on the shirtdress with a sharp collar. I like the gentle fit-and-flare and the fact that you can dress this up or down with some tights and a pair of heeled boots. You can also play with the styling of the buttons and sleeves for a more relaxed feel.
