I don’t know about you, but this is my favorite time of year because it means I get to revel in jackets galore. Every capsule wardrobe needs a few staple jackets to see you through the season, and guess what? There’s one outdated fashion rule that I stand by: Basics don’t have to break the bank. That’s why I’m on a mission to find the the best jackets under $150 to keep you warm and stylish no matter the occasion, whether you’re going for a morning jog or romantic date. Here are 30 items to shop, including lightweight pieces for layering, cropped puffer styles and a best-selling lululemon jacket that’s not to be missed.

“This jacket was exactly what I was looking for,” gushes one Amazon reviewer. “[It’s] lightweight but roomy enough to wear with heavier sweaters and layers.” It’s equipped with double thermal insulation and thermolite infrared technology, or the solar-activated way the jacket produces warmth without any of the bulk or down filling—even in wet conditions. With more than 2,600 perfect 5-star reviews on Amazon, it’s clear this affordable jacket is a customer favorite.

If you’re obsessed with wearing blazers, consider a structured peacoat. It has a tailored fit and timelessness to it, thanks to its sophisticated design. Pair it with a basic tee and jeans for a sharp look or drape it over a midi frock for a dressier option.

Am I surprised that this is a fan-favorite jacket at lululemon? No, no I am not, because it has a lot of standout qualities that make this a real winner. That might be because of the buttery-soft fabric—it’s weightless, sweat-wicking, breathable and made with four-way stretch—or the slim fit. Or, perhaps, it’s because of one of the many other thoughtful details, like thumbholes, zippered pockets, no-chafe zipper garage or the elastic zipper itself, which doubles as an emergency hair tie (because there’s nothing worse than forgetting your hair tie).

“Uniqlo puffers were my ride or die for five years,” says PureWow Associate SEO Editor Marissa Wu. “I still have [this] old (leaky) one I keep as a house coat. It’s so easy to layer under a bigger coat without taking up too much space, but still keeps you warm. Plus, you can roll it up and shove in your bag! Great when you're wearing ‘nice’ clothes but just need to keep warm on the commute.” It’s safe to say this jacket will last you for years to come, but you can keep it in mint condition by hand washing it.

Ahh, there’s nothing quite like a vest for weekend strolls or walking the dog, especially this one that’s windproof and ultra-stylish. If you’re hesitant to part with your traditional vest like one reviewer was, you may just find that a cropped style can complement a lot of outfits. Shopper Sammy D. says, “Obsessed is an understatement. The length really does make a difference to certain outfits, and I really love the bottom lining detail. It's a little boxy in the shoulders but nothing that doesn't look great on. I love this little piece.”

Behold: a wind- and water-resistant trench coat that is oozing in modernity with an uber-stylish cropped silhouette. One customer says, “The material feels and looks expensive compared to other trench coats I’ve seen, and the fit is great to wear with skirt, jeans, etc.” Psst, it has pockets, too.

Gear up for rain showers in this long jacket that’s water-resistant and designed to keep you not only dry, but warm, too. “It’s long enough so that when you sit your legs and butt don’t get wet,” says a Nordstrom reviewer. “There’s plenty of pocket space to keep keys [and] phone dry. I like that it has a double zipper so you can open the bottom a little if it feels tight.” Not to mention, a hood that comes with drawstrings to keep the wind out. According to reviews, it may run slightly large, so you may want to size down if you’re between sizes.

Round out your wardrobe with a cable knit jacket to keep you warm and cozy all season long. With a crewneck cut and dropped shoulder design, this is the type of effortless jacket that’ll polish off your ‘fit. It also comes in two shades of blue, but I’m partial to this snowy white.

I’m a sucker for SNDYS pieces (see: my SNDYS Tahlia dress review), and this trench coat is no exception. It adopts such a timeless silhouette that looks incredibly lightweight and airy, much like a traditional Burberry trench. The double-breasted jacket also features a removable tie at the waist that can be cinched to taper your look. One buyer says, “I LOVE my new trench! I have looked, tried on, purchased and returned so many trench coats but this one is a KEEPER! [It has a] beautiful soft color, lovely drape and belted scrumptiousness! Perfect topper for all seasons.”

You might want to snag this barn jacket before it sells out, because something this sleek is bound to fly off the shelves. J.Crew duplicated their best-selling barn jacket but made it with a trendy denim. “I've been looking for a black jacket that was different and this fits the bill,” says one buyer. “Basically it's a cross between a barn jacket and a denim jacket, but the pockets are large and fantastic.”

This next pick is durable (check), lightweight (check) and layer-friendly (check). “I have the Dickies Eisenhower jacket and it’s the perfect lightweight coat for fall,” Delia Curtis, assistant editor at PureWow, tells me. “Mine was embroidered with my last name and a star on the cuff, and it’s truly one of the most versatile jackets that I own. I love that I can dress it down with jeans or up with a button-down and some slacks. It’s the jacket that people compliment on me the most because of it’s more structured fit, and...this is a lovely unisex pick that will likely wear as oversized on a female frame.”

Zella may be renowned for their buttery leggings, but just wait until you try the brand’s sporty jacket. The fabric is made with a nylon and spandex blend that has a really cool crinkled texture to it, making your afternoon walks extra stylish.

What do you get when you combine your favorite flannel with your comfiest sherpa jacket? Answer: this cozy coat. It boasts two large functional pockets at the sides and two decorative pockets at the chest, plus a looser fit that’ll have you thinking you’re wearing your boyfriend’s jacket. One buyer writes, “It looks to be a shirt, but it’s heavy duty like a jacket! It's beautiful, and has a very durable material!”

Here’s a modern take on a ‘70s-inspired sherpa-lined jacket. From the long sleeves to the long lapels, there’s a lot to love about this stunner. It has an exaggerated oversize fit, so you may want to size down if you prefer a more fitted look. I have a feeling you’ll love the fleece interior, especially when it’s really cold out.

“This jacket is absolutely gorgeous,” writes one Target buyer. “It has a liner and is very warm.” For someone who’s petite, she mention that it does lay more full length. If you’ve been eyeing the jackets that Duchess Sophie has recently worn, then you may just recognize this pick in the burgundy shade as a similar lookalike to the piece she donned at a Christmas celebration.

Do yourself a favor and lean into the Chanel-inspired cropped jacket trend this season. It’s the easiest way to instantly look sophisticated and stylish, whether you wear it with black trousers or a matching tweed bottom. Despite its cropped silhouette, the brand notes that it runs large and suggests sizing down for a bespoke fit.

Planning to visit one of the national parks soon? You’ll want to bring this fleece with you to wear as a stand-alone jacket when the sun peaks out on mile 10 or as a midlayer for when its freezing out. “I have been looking for a comfortable fleece to replace a torn one from another brand for a few years now,” says Cotopaxi fan Lauren D. “Everything is perfect, from the design to the quality of the material and—most importantly—the fit! I’ll be sporting this for many years to come!” Buyers appreciate its impressive quality and comfortable feel, however there are some mixed reviews on the sizing. Some people with bigger busts found it to be snug, so I suggest double-checking the size guide before ordering.

Last year, I saw the rise of faux-fur coats exactly like this piece from Gap and I suspect they'll continue to trend. It comes in three different fits (regular, petite and tall), so you can find the ideal length that’ll complement your frame as if it was tailor-made for you.

With this Madewell denim jacket, you get two looks in one, so you can swap between a true oversize jean jacket and the hourglass shape taking over fall fashion. One buyer found it to be soft, comfortable and versatile in sizing, noting that you can size up one or two sizes if you want to lean into the oversize look since the belt can be cinched to accentuate the small of your waist.

Animal print, especially leopard, is all the rage right now, and this boxy jacket is such a chic piece to layer over an evening dress, but don’t just take my word for it. One happy customer says, “This will be the easiest little jacket to thrown on and make your outfit so cool and effortless. It's very cozy, soft, [and] because it's so boxy it'll look good on every body type.”

When temps drop, there’s nothing more satisfying than whipping out a puffer jacket that’s made with a cozy sherpa derived from recycled materials. The hip-length jacket boasts lightweight insulation that won’t weight you down, plus plenty of functional elements like pockets (with zip closures!), a funnel neckline to keep the wind out and ribbed cuffs to keep the warmth locked inside.

Tired of your camel-colored cotton trench? Boy, do I have the pick for you. This faux-leather trench, which is made from recycled polyester, is just what your wardrobe needs for when the forecast predicts rain since it has a water-repellent construction. And that tailored fit and belted waist is *chef’s kiss* for my fellow fashionistas.

IYDK, this is one the brand’s most beloved styles. Deemed the “goes-with-everything jacket,” it has a fitted silhouette that’s designed to fall below the hip and complement your everyday outfits. It’s made from a nylon and spandex blend, so not only is it weather resistant, but it’ll also boast a significant amount of stretch that’ll make it all the more comfortable. The removable hood is a nice touch, as is the drawstring at the waist—it’s all in the details, people.

I love wearing a cozy pullover fleece jacket on morning walks or winter runs, and this Free People version delivers on all fronts, including functionality, wearability and style. What’s more, it’s constructed with a woven fabric that claims to be more resistant to tears and rips. “I’m in total love with this fleece. It’s my favorite ever,” gushes buyer Anna L. “It’s suuuuuper soft inside and out. [and] the cut of it is very flattering.” Not to mention, it comes in a handful of really fun and vibrant color combinations.

Ever wanted to know what it’s like to wear your blanket out and about and not just on the couch? Well, you just might find out in this sherpa jacket, which comes in a slew of colors like this trendy cherry red. “It’s like being wrapped in a teddy bear,” says one buyer, who ordered her usual size. “The material is soft, warm and cozy!” Her only qualm is that the length of the arms felt slightly short, especially when she lifted her arm, but majority of buyers say that it’s soft, warm and great quality.

Set aside your cotton blazer for the rest of the year and wear this vegan leather piece in its place. Its single-breasted design is super chic but not too formal to wear on an errand run or to brunch with the girls.

Another Uniqlo jacket that impressed Wu was the quilted liner. “My French host mom had [this] quilted version, [and] she made it so stylish! And this was a woman with a Chloé Sadle bag in her closet, too.” You heard it here first, people—this affordable jacket can stand up to some of the most luxury brands and look just as elevated.

This jacket is designed by a Seattle-based team who know a thing or two when it comes to rainy conditions, so you better believe it’s designed with the utmost care and attention to detail. In fact, it boasts durable water-repellent finish that’ll make the moisture bead right off and a windproof make that can withstand up to 60 mph. It’s the improved model of older versions, so it’s quieter and more comfortable than the ones that came before it.

This elegant jacket will have people asking you, “Where’d you get that?” Imagine your favorite wool jacket turned into a fashionable lightweight coat and you’re met with this piece. It has long sleeves that slightly flare out at the hems and a really unique blanket stitch trim that makes everything about this pop. Besides the vibrant green, this also comes in a neutral brown that is bound to steal the hearts of all the minimalists out there.

I have a confession to make: I stole my dad’s jacket leather jacket that looks just like this stunner, except this moto style isn’t damaged with holes and tears like his (now) vintage piece. I like that it has a cool aesthetic and fit to it, with its exaggerated collar and slouchy-yet-slim silhouette.
