Taylor Swift Tops Spotify Wrapped for 2024, But the Real Surprise Is at #2

Are you ready for it?

It’s that time of year again—no, not just the holidays (though they’re certainly part of it). I’m talking about the much-anticipated tradition we know as Spotify Wrapped. Each year, the streaming giant delivers a personalized summary of users' musical preferences, highlighting their most-played songs, artists and genres. It also unveils global trends, showcasing the top artists, tracks and genres across its entire user base.

This year’s list dropped on Wednesday, December 4, and claiming the number one spot for the global artist of 2024 was none other than… drumroll, please… Taylor Swift.

The "Fortnight" singer soared to the top with a staggering 26.6 billion streams globally, according to Spotify, who announced that to commemorate her monumental achievement, fans will notice a "first-ever special badge" added to her Spotify artist profile.

While Swift’s dominance is hardly surprising—she’s no stranger to smashing records—it’s still worth celebrating. Swifties, of course, already know the depth of admiration (and obsession) she inspires. For me, however, the real intrigue was the number two spot—and the rest of the top ten.

Landing at number two was The Weeknd, which genuinely caught me off guard. Don’t get me wrong—I’m a fan. But his musical output this year seemed relatively quiet.

Back in January, The Weeknd teased an album that still hasn’t materialized as of the writing of this article. His contributions included a feature on "Young Metro," a track from Future and Metro Boomin's collaborative album We Don’t Trust You and its follow-up We Still Don’t Trust You, and a one-day concert in Brazil in September. And, he also announced his upcoming sixth album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, slated for early 2025. With such a seemingly low-key year, securing the second spot is a massive achievement.

As for the rest of the top ten: Bad Bunny came in third, followed by Drake (4), Billie Eilish (5), Travis Scott (6), Peso Pluma (7), Kanye West (8), Ariana Grande (9) and Feid (10).

Congrats to all the incredible artists.
