As a frequent cruise traveler, I’m accustomed to getting a flight to Florida and sailing away on my next destination. While most cruise lines leave from Port Canaveral, Port Miami and Port Tampa Bay, I was surprised to learn there are actually a few ships that leave straight from (or close enough from) my hometown of NYC, no air travel necessary. So whether you’re born-and-bred New Yorker or looking for a change of scenery, I’ve found 12 cruises out of New York that you can book right now.
12 Cruises Out of New York City (or Close Enough) That You Can Hop on Without a Flight
Say goodbye to the skyline

1. Norwegian Aqua
PureWow's VP of News and Entertainment Philip Mutz recently had a chance to stay on the brand-new Aqua from NCL. He raved about the ship saying, "From top to bottom, the Aqua is a gorgeous ship. It's the biggest from Norwegian that I've been on (it's 10 percent bigger than the Prima and the Viva) and I loved getting lost as I wandered from floor to floor and lounge to lounge. I particularly enjoyed taking in the view of New York as I boarded the Aqua Slidecoaster (the world’s first hybrid roller coaster and waterslide)—and you better believe I screamed when the ride launched me into the twisty water slide as I raced against my shipmates. Oh, and definitely make time to relax in the Vibe Beach Club as you sail down the Hudson River on your way to Bermuda."

I had a chance to board the Norwegian Prima right out of New York and it was definitely worth the experience. I saw the Manhattan skyline through a whole new lens, especially when I was standing on the top floor near the Prima Speedway (a three-level race track) or The Haven sundeck. It had only one stop at Nova Scotia and overall it was a nice three day cruise that surely ranks high on my list. And if you prefer a longer destination, the ship also travels to Belfast, Liverpool and Paris.
