Simone Biles Has a Message for Critics of Her Hair—and She’s Not Holding Back

She’s busy winning gold

Simone Biles, the GOAT of gymnastics and eight-time Olympic medalist, isn't here for any negative chatter about her hair.

The 27-year-old shared her thoughts on Instagram Stories on July 30, and she didn’t hold back.

Amid a scorching heatwave hitting Paris, where temps are soaring to 95 degrees, Biles posted a video from a 45-minute bus ride with her fellow Olympians. In the image, she's seen using a handheld fan to beat the heat, with her hair pulled back in a ponytail. Her message? Loud and clear: "Don't come for me about my hair. IT WAS DONE but bus has NO AC & it's like 9,0000 degrees."

But she didn't stop there. In a follow-up post, Biles smiled in a black tank top, eyes closed, and added a more serious note. She addressed the topic that, unfortunately, she knows all too well: unsolicited comments about her hair.

"Gonna hold your hand when I say this," she wrote. "Next time you wanna comment on a Black girl's hair, JUST DON'T."

Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, has been subjected to unnecessary critiques about her hair for years. In a candid interview with Elle on July 17, she reflected on her journey to self-acceptance.

"I used to worry about [my hair being considered] not professional, but I’m not embarrassed about it anymore," she shared. She also noted that much of the criticism comes from within the Black community, which she finds particularly disheartening. "I don’t really care if my edges aren’t smooth."

The message to haters came just hours before Team USA snagged gold in the team event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. After crushing it in the qualifiers, Biles and the rest of the U.S. women's gymnastics team wowed everyone again in the finals. They nailed their routines and scored a whopping 171.296 points, leaving Italy trailing by 5.802 points for silver. Brazil took home the bronze.
