Serena Williams Reveals She’s Dabbling in a New Sport (and It’s Harder Than She Was Anticipating)

Serena Williams may have recently announced that she was stepping away from professional tennis, but that doesn't mean she's giving up on sports entirely. In fact, according to a new Instagram video, she appears to be dabbling in a new physical activity: soccer.

The Grand Slam champ just revealed that she inadvertently became an assistant soccer coach for her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., 5, and her daughter's team. She recounted the story in her caption, where she said, “True story: I showed up to Olympia’s first soccer practice. And she was so nervous she would NOT leave my side. So they needed volunteers to be assistant coaches. So now, I am an assistant coach (when I can) and clearly I was not prepared.”

In the rest of her caption, Williams explained her drenched appearance from the video, writing, “I just went to chill and left looking like this. At least I have a @Lincoln to get us to soccer practice! Modern day soccer mom. Maybe I’ll call up @weareangelcity…”

The athlete referred to herself as a soccer mom in the actual clip as well, where she said, “First day as a soccer mom, but I decided not to do the mini van...”

Williams referenced Angel City FC because she is actually one of the owners of the national women's soccer league, and her daughter seems to be a fan of the squad as well.

In one video that was posted to the account that Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, run for their daughter, the 5-year-old was seen kicking the ball around with members of the Angel City team. “Running with the Angels @weareangelcity
@thinkbetterjair w the assist,” the caption read.

The video featured Olympia showing off her moves, with some impressive dribbling and even a backwards kick.

Then, in a clip from a different night (at the end of the slideshow below), the toddler was seen taking a shot on the goal, and the caption said, “Youngest owner in pro sports...But why not player, too?”
