It’s the moment we’ve been waiting for since 2019. The royal family—well, a slimmed-down version of it—was back on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the culmination of Trooping the Colour, Queen Elizabeth’s birthday parade, but an extra special one in honor of her Platinum Jubilee and 70 years on the throne.
The Royal Family Just Appeared on the Balcony for Trooping the Colour & Queen Elizabeth Has Never Looked Happier
Appearing front and center were Queen Elizabeth, the Cambridge family (Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis), Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles, plus Princess Anne, her husband Timothy Laurence, the Wessexes and the Duke of Kent.
There was pomp! There was circumstance! There was Prince Louis who was less than thrilled about all the noise!
But most of all, the focus was on Queen Elizabeth, who was dressed in blue and wearing the same ensemble from her newly released Platinum Jubilee portrait. As she watched the flyover in her honor and peered at the massive size of the crowds below, she radiated happiness and pride. An occasion to remember, that’s for sure.
Of course, noticeably absent were the Sussexes and Prince Andrew, but given they’re no longer working members of the royal family, the move was said to be an obvious choice. That said, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were just out of view behind-the-scenes at Buckingham Palace watching the parade from the Major General’s Office alongside other members of the royal family. (Prince Andrew—appropriately so—was absent, full-stop.)
An occasion to remember, that’s for sure. Fingers crossed we get another balcony photo opp before the weekend’s end.
