Looks like Prince William is keeping everyone on their toes with his latest style move—and, of course, it’s all about the beard.

On Tuesday, September 24, the Prince of Wales, 42, popped up in a video announcing the 2024 Earthshot Prize finalists, but it wasn’t just the eco-news grabbing attention. His signature scruff, although still present, looked a bit different—it’s a little more trimmed than usual.

One person commented on the Instagram post, “Looking fancy with the outfit and of course the beard.” Another chimed, “Omg, the prince’s stubble is really refreshingly hot & handsome for him." A third added, "William looks great."

Eagle-eyed fans will also note that William's new trimmed down look first emerged a few days ago at an event hosted by Homewards Aberdeen in Scotland.

As a reminder, Prince William’s been rocking the beard since August, though he did briefly ditch it for a clean-shaven look. Lately, he’s been sporting a fuller, thicker vibe, but this week’s appearance shows a slightly more polished version. Nonetheless, people are still loving it. (You'll remember the thicker beard from when he stepped out for the Sovereign’s Parade at the Royal Air Force College in Cranwell on Thursday, September 12.)

Prince William first sent the internet into a frenzy when he debuted his scruff in early August during a video with Kate Middleton congratulating Team Great Britain on their Olympic success. It was the first time in eight years we saw him with facial hair, and the people were here for it.

But, in true royal fashion, the beard didn’t last long. By the end of the month, when the Prince and Princess of Wales were spotted heading to church near Balmoral Castle, Prince William was clean-shaven again, sparking speculation that the scruff was just a summer fling.

Turns out, the beard is sticking around for now—and no one’s complaining. Fun fact: It’s a bit of a royal tradition for the men to grow facial hair when they’re “off-duty.” Prince Harry’s been all about that scruff for years, and even King Charles rocked facial hair back in the day.

So, will William’s trimmed-up look become his new thing? Only time (and maybe a few more royal appearances) will tell.
