After 13 years of marriage, three kids and countless royal engagements together, Prince William and Kate Middleton have certainly been through their share of highs and lows. But in the past year, they’ve faced perhaps their most personal challenge yet: Princess Catherine’s battle with cancer. Middleton recently shared some news, revealing that she’s completed her chemotherapy treatments and is easing back into her royal duties. However, it’s clear from Prince William’s recent remarks that the topic remains deeply emotional for him.

While attending the Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony on November 6, William spoke briefly about his wife and body language expert Darren Stanton, speaking to PureWow on behalf of Betfair Casino, shared that Prince William’s reaction when mentioning Middleton spoke volumes.

“When William speaks about his wife Kate during an interview, his eyes immediately go down. This means he’s sensitively processing the question,” Stanton explained. "He displays a warm smile and nods to cement his sincerity. He presented himself with a new calmness.”

Before the ceremony, Prince William updated reporters on Kate’s health while visiting Cape Town, South Africa. He was there alone, as Middleton and their children—Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6—stayed back in the U.K.

“She’s doing really well post-treatment,” he said, per the BBC, adding, “Hopefully she’s watching tonight and cheering me on. She’s been amazing this whole year, and I know she’ll be really keen to see tonight be a success.”

Even though his family didn't join him for this trip, William found subtle ways to keep them close to his heart.

He gave Kate a sweet shoutout when he first announced the trip to Cape Town and even wore a special “Papa” friendship bracelet on his wrist. This adorable accessory was reportedly made by Princess Charlotte and is a nod to the nickname his children call him.
