That should settle it

No matter how many stones are thrown at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, they’re standing strong.

During a candid conversation at The New York Times' DealBook Summit on Wednesday, the Duke of Sussex addressed the constant speculation about his relationship with wife. The couple, who married in 2018, has been under the media microscope ever since they stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California. Today, they share two kids—Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3—and have managed to weather the storm of tabloid rumors about their relationship.

In his chat with Times columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin, Prince Harry was asked how he handles the relentless public interest in his marriage, especially when they’re not seen together. Sorkin referenced Markle’s solo outing at the Paley Honors Gala in Beverly Hills and quipped, “The second there’s an article — she’s in California, you’re in New York — they say, ‘What is happening with these two?’ Is that a good thing for you?”

The royal responded humorously, admitting that the media frenzy is “definitely not a good thing,” adding, “Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So, it’s just like, what?”

While the rumors may be exhausting, Prince Harry’s learned to tune it out. “It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it,” he said. “The people I feel most sorry for are the trolls. Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So, I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do.”

Recognizing the scrutiny that always comes with the territory, the Duke of Sussex joked, “No doubt this will be spun or twisted somehow against me, and maybe you yourself will be trolled relentlessly. For that, I can only apologize, but you did invite me, so it’s not my fault.”

While Harry was in New York, Meghan was out in Beverly Hills, looking effortlessly chic as she supported her friend Tyler Perry at the Paley Honors Gala. Whether they’re together or apart, it’s clear that the Sussexes aren’t letting the drama get to them.
