She's rocking the look

Whether she’s trying or not, Katie Holmes has a knack for being ahead of the curve. Remember when she wore one of the biggest dress trends, swapped out ballet flats for grandpa sandals or casually wore the “it” color of the season before everyone else? Well, with her latest outing, it looks like she’s embracing another trend before it fully takes off: the no-makeup look.

On January 7, Holmes was spotted posing with Jim Parsons at Sardi’s in New York City. The occasion? A celebration of Parsons’ performance in Our Town on Broadway, after which his caricature was added to Sardi’s famous wall of fame. Holmes, who also stars in the production, looked as stunning as ever, rocking what appeared to be very little (if any) makeup.

The no-makeup aesthetic has been making waves recently, but it’s not exactly new. The trend originally gained traction during the Y2K era, thanks in part to Alicia Keys, who famously ditched makeup altogether. Fast forward to 2023, and it saw a full-on revival, largely inspired by none other than Pamela Anderson.

At the Fashion Awards that year, the Baywatch icon explained her shift to a makeup-free lifestyle, saying it was a tribute to her late friend and makeup artist, Alexis Vogel, who passed away from breast cancer. “She was the best,” Anderson told Elle. “And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup.”

Whether Holmes plans to fully commit to the barely-there beauty vibe remains to be seen. It does, however, follow another recent shake-up to her signature look. Just last month, Holmes ditched her usual all-down hairstyle for a chic, casual braid that draped over her shoulder.

One thing’s for sure: Katie Holmes is keeping the people guessing. And honestly, considering how she tends to stay pretty low key, it'll be exciting to see what she does next.
