Kate Middleton’s Latest Look Is Missing One Key Accessory: Her Engagement Ring

Where's the sapphire?

Kate Middleton made her first royal appearance of 2025 on Tuesday at The Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she was treated for cancer last year. It’s a much brighter start to the year compared to 2024, which included a cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy.

As always, the Princess of Wales, 43, looked effortlessly chic in a monochromatic look which featured a burgundy turtleneck sweater and matching skirt, layered under a brown checkered coat. But it wasn’t her outfit that had fans talking—it was what was missing from her ring finger.

Middleton's famous 12-carat diamond and sapphire engagement ring (you know, the one that used to belong to Prince William's late mother, Princess Diana) was MIA. And yes, this is the same ring we just saw in the sweet birthday post shared last week for her. Instead, Kate was sporting a gorgeous eternity band made of diamonds and sapphires, paired with her gold wedding ring.

Before anyone starts spiraling, this isn’t the first time she’s ditched her iconic engagement ring. Princess Catherine actually debuted this eternity band last summer when she shared a video updating everyone on her cancer journey. According to royal historian Lauren Kiehna, via The Court Jeweller, she likely made the swap because the engagement ring—stunning as it is—wasn’t fitting comfortably during that time.

But here’s where things get even more meaningful. Jewelry expert Phil Grosso from Amore Fine Jewelry weighed in, saying, “Eternity rings have long been a symbol of unending love, commitment, and connection. Given Kate’s affinity for personal pieces, this ring may represent resilience and strength, especially after her health journey.”

No matter the reason, Middleton’s jewelry game remains unmatched. And honestly? I'm here for all of it.
