Kate Middleton's Body Language Said a Lot at Yesterday's Outing—and It Majorly Shifted Halfway Through

It was a complete 180

Kate Middleton is letting her light shine, and honestly, I love to see it. Not only did she recently share the incredible news that her cancer is in remission, but she’s also been making a series of public appearances, often hand-in-hand with her husband, Prince William. Monday was no exception, with the couple stepping out in London for a significant event commemorating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and Princess Catherine’s body language was on full display.

At the event, the Prince and Princess of Wales joined faith leaders, civic figures, Holocaust survivors and survivors of more recent genocides to mark this somber anniversary. But even in such a serious setting, Middleton’s warmth shone through. Case in point: her interaction with Yvonne Bernstein, a Holocaust survivor who Middleton has met before. Photos captured Kate absolutely beaming while chatting and laughing with Bernstein.

PureWow's VP of News & Entertainment, Philip Mutz, weighed in on the Princess’s body language, saying, "When she interacted with certain individuals, she came alive. She was open and smiling and touchy. She's clearly her most comfortable self when interacting with others."

And it wasn’t just a surface-level interaction—Middleton even referred to Bernstein as “an old friend,” according to the Daily Mail. The two go way back, with Bernstein having appeared in a series of portraits taken by Princess Catherine herself in 2020.

But while Middleton’s warmth and charisma were evident during these one-on-one moments, her body language shifted during the more formal parts of the day. Mutz noted that her demeanor became more reserved during an official ceremony, explaining, "It could partly be the serious nature of the event, but also that she was much more on display."

"Her body language appeared understandably nervous and a bit closed off," he continued. "In picture after picture, she's holding her hands in front of her body, a sign that she's not quite comfortable and wants to protect herself."

Even so, Middleton’s ability to balance these moments of connection with the weight of the occasion is just another example of why she’s such a beloved royal.
