New style term to add to your repertoire (and it seems Kate Middleton is way ahead of us on this one): "bag layering." You know, when you pack an oversized tote with all the essentials, plus a smaller pouch or bag inside. The inner purse can be used for organization purposes, to hold the important stuff like a phone or to whip out at a moment's notice for happy hour drinks. Work, daycare, school, social life: We schleppers are all too familiar with business (utilitarian tote) on the outside, party (fun/funky/ladylike pouch or handbag) on the inside.
As NYC-based fashion editor, stylist and former WSJ deputy fashion director Becky Malinsky writes on her substack, 5 Things You Should Buy, "The vessel for your phone / wallet / keys should be equal parts 'spark joy' and 'hardest working accessory.'"
