Just two months ago, Emily in Paris fans finally got their hands on season four after a long two-year wait, and now they’re hit with some major news about season five—it could spell the end for one main character.

While nothing’s confirmed yet, this buzz comes after Lucas Bravo, who plays chef Gabriel in the Netflix series, hinted at some uncertainty about returning for the next season. He’s been reflecting on his character’s arc over the past four seasons and isn’t too sure he wants to continue.

“The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me in Season one, and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and the direction they make him take. I’ve never been so far away from him,” Bravo shared with IndieWire.

He expressed concern about how Gabriel has transformed, telling the outlet, “In Season one, there was a lot of me in him. But as they made him kind of unaware of his surroundings, always victimizing and completely lost in translation, it kind of became not fun for me to shoot or to see a character I love so much slowly turned into guacamole. I really grew apart from him.”

Bravo also mentioned that he’s tried to share his thoughts and input on set, but he feels limited by the script, which could play a factor in his future in the Lily Collins-led dramedy.

“It makes me question if I want to be part of Season five […] because my contract ends at Season four," he added. "I really want to see if Gabriel gets back to his fun, cheeky, playful, alive self. Because three seasons playing melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost is not fun anymore. It’s a comedy, and everybody is having fun around me while I’m slowly sinking into god knows what.”

Despite his frustrations, Bravo remains thankful for the role that launched his career.

“But I love the show. It started everything for me. I love the show and the people in it. With that said, I feel like I’m not being nice or grateful, but when you love something, you want the best version of it. I’m not going to lie; I’ve been frustrated with the direction my character is taking. But we’ll see where it goes. The show is not over.”

So, will we see Gabriel in season five, or is this the end of the road? Only time will tell. In the meantime, seasons one through four of Emily in Paris are available to stream on Netflix.
