Dolly Parton Is Releasing a Book She Wrote with Popular Mystery Novelist James Patterson

Dolly Parton is a multi-talented singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist. And now, she can add author to that list, too.

That's right, the “9 to 5” singer just announced that she's set to release her first-ever novel, Run, Rose, Run, in March 2022. The book was co-written by James Patterson, who has released over 100 New York Times bestselling novels (including the popular Alex Cross and Maximum Ride series).

Parton shared the exciting news on her Instagram, where she said, “I cannot be more excited about the release of my very first novel #RunRoseRun with @jamespattersonbooks.”

But fans have even more reason to get excited because it's not just a book that's coming. “I also have a new CD to go along with the book, based on its characters and situations,” Parton wrote. “I hope you enjoy the book and the songs as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it together.” According to the book cover, there will be 12 original Dolly Parton songs on the new album.

Our excitement was shared by Parton's fans—like one user, who said, “Songteller turns storyteller. I’m so excited for this!!!” Another asked, “What can’t she do?!”

It makes sense that Parton still has more of her skillful writing to offer. Throughout her career, the prolific artist has released over 60 studio albums. She told The Guardian in 2019 that she's probably produced around 5,000 songs during her life. “I’ve had hundreds and hundreds copyrighted and recorded, but there are so many more—boxes and trunks full of them—that I’ll go back and rework,” she said.

Based on the number of hit songs she's written, this book is bound to be good.
