‘Dead to Me’ Star Christina Applegate Gets Emotional During Hollywood Walk of Fame Speech

Christina Applegate wasn’t the only one who teared up during her latest public appearance.

This week, the Dead to Me star attended her induction ceremony on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where she received a well-deserved star. The appearance was Applegate’s first public outing since she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) back in 2021. Not only did she give a heartfelt speech to honor her accomplishments, but she also addressed the life-changing diagnosis.

When Applegate took the podium, she revealed that she’s honored to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “I’ve had a really interesting life, but the life started as a little girl waiting in line to see the first Star Wars on this very street at that very theater. And looking at [the stars] and going, ‘Who are these people? What are these things? Did they do something right? Did they do something wrong? Whatever it is, I want one. I effing want one,’” she said. “And I was five years old, so this day means more to me than you can possibly imagine.”

The actress got emotional while thanking her friends family for their unconditional support. “I don’t say that I have friends, I have family,” she explained. “These people take care of me. They take care of me every day of my life, and without them, I don’t know what I would do.”

Applegate continued to tear up while discussing her 11-year-old daughter, Sadie: “And lastly, the most important person in this world is my daughter. You are so much more than even you know. You are so beautiful and kind and loving and smart and interesting, and I am blessed every day that I get to wake up and take you to your school. You are my everything. Thank you for standing beside me through all of this.”

At the end of her speech, Applegate addressed her MS diagnosis, adding, “Oh, by the way, I have a disease. Did you not notice? I’m not wearing shoes!” (FYI, she now uses a walking cane.)

When no one laughed, she added, “Anywho, you’re supposed to laugh at that.”

Her positivity is contagious.
