They still nailed it

If you thought you had Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s Golden Globes looks all figured out, think again. Sure, it might have been easy to assume they’d show up in pink and green—an homage to their Wicked roles as Glinda and Elphaba. But the dynamic duo kept us guessing with fresh, unexpected choices that still gave a subtle nod to their iconic characters.

Let’s start with Grande, nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical). The singer-actress wowed in a vintage, never-before-worn yellow Givenchy Haute Couture gown from 1966, channeling classic Audrey Hepburn vibes.

Why yellow? Grande spilled on Variety’s preshow, “It’s yellow because follow the yellow brick road. And it’s one of Glinda’s favorite colors.”

The stunning dress featured a delicately embroidered bodice, a sleek column skirt with subtle tiers, and a bow detail in the back. Styled by Mimi Cuttrell, Grande completed the look with a Swarovski choker and white opera gloves.

Fun fact: The dress was sourced from celebrity-favorite vintage dealer Lily et Cie, and according to the boutique, per Cosmopolitan, "The dress was unworn. It still had the original mode depose seal in place on the dress."

As for Erivo? The Best Actress nominee (for her role in Wicked) skipped Elphaba’s signature green for a custom Louis Vuitton gown in black with shimmering silver floral embroidery. The bold design, who she worked with Jason Bolden to curate, featured a dramatic peplum, deep V-neckline and sweeping ballgown skirt. And for the record, on the red carpet, Erivo shared that black is still an Elphaba-approved color.

Both stars brought their A-game to the fashion scene while holding their Wicked ties close. The verdict? They both nailed it—and kept the spirit of Oz alive.
