Minimalism has always escaped me, even when it comes to cleaning products. Blame it on testing vacuums, mops and detergents for years, but I have a particular tool for every type of mess. It drives everyone who lives with me crazy. There’s the Tineco iFloor 5 I use to deep clean my floors, the Swiffer PowerMop that gets under the bathroom vanities, the lightweight cordless Shark vac for crevices, the StainStriker for upholstery—just to name the key components of my fleet.

Each has different chargers, replacement parts and needs, creating their own sort of clutter. That’s why, when my robot vac died and I announced that I’d be replacing it with the Yeedi C12 Combo—my entire family groaned.

“More vacuums?!”

But after testing out all of the attachments, I could finally donate almost all of my other gadgets. Here’s why, after nearly two months of testing, I’m ready to change my vacuum-hoarding ways.

What’s the Yeedi C12 Combo?

yeedi

Dubbed the “world’s first whole house combot” (aka “combination bot”), the C12 features a robot vacuum with a docking station, but that station also contains a cordless stick vacuum with multiple attachments (including a crevice tool to creep between couch cushions) and a mop attachment for said stick vac. And both vacuums are self-emptying.

How Well Does It Work?

yeedi

After years of testing robot vacuums, I’ve learned that four features are crucial: Its edge detection, its suction power, its ability to navigate around obstacles without getting stuck and how well it can pick up pet hair and other debris without getting tangled. (Noise is another important consideration, but almost all are about as noisy as running a blender, no matter how quiet they tout themselves to be—especially if they’ve got powerful suction.)

Without making your eyes glaze over, here’s how the C12 stacks up:

  • Brush Tangling — After several runs spent picking up a variety of messes, including pet and people’s hair, the brushes remained tangle-free. I’ve seen multiple motors in robot vacuums burn out due to tangled pet hair, so this is a good sign. Regular cleaning of the brushes will be necessary, like any vac, but so far, that seems to be more of a quarterly task than an every-other-clean task, as it has been with other models I’ve tried.
  • Edge detection — The C12 glided over entryway thresholds and avoided falling down stairs without issue. And it tended to slow down as its sensors detected an obstacle, so it didn’t run over my toes, like other vacs I’ve owned.
  • Suction power — Robot vacuums’ power is often measured in Pascal (Pa), with 2,000 to 6,000 being average. The C12 clocks in at 10,000 Pa, and when testing it on tile and low-pile carpets with a range of debris—from ultra-fine sugar sand to matted dog hair and crumbled cereal and crackers—it had no problem picking things up, leaving surfaces smooth and grit-free. The cordless stick vac had equally thorough results and seemed better suited to vacuuming shaggier rugs. (Stick vacs are measured by Air Watts, or AW, and while Yeedi’s 95 AW is lower than the typically recommended 100 to 150, it still gets the job done.)
  • Maneuverability — Bath and kitchen mats often trip up robot vacuums, resulting in error messages. I only ran into issues with one bath mat, which had a curled edge that kept catching the vacuum. Otherwise, the C12 had no problem transitioning from carpets to tile to wood floors, as well as around and under couches, bar stools and dining chairs.

What the Yeedi C12 Does Well

yeedi

As I used the Yeedi, I could practically hear The Home Edit chiming in my ears: “It’s a system!” It felt like an all-in-one command station more than just a vacuum. I loved how thoughtfully designed the docking station is, with a compartment to house all of the stick vac attachments, as well as self-cleaning modes for both the robot vacuum and stick vac, so you don’t have to empty filters after each run. It felt tidy, well organized and efficient. Best of all, it’s relatively intuitive to use.

It also boasts a nearly five-hour runtime, per the brand, but given my 854-square-foot home, I’ve never come close to burning through its battery, no matter how much I deep cleaned.

What the Yeedi C12 Doesn’t Do as Well

yeedi

Because the C12 houses so many cleaning tools, you’ll need more space for its docking station. At 20 inches by 20 inches, it takes up roughly twice the space of other robot vacuums, but it still was much smaller than that, my mops and my cordless stick vac combined.

The one tool I’m not giving away? My classic mop. The C12’s mop features a small water tank with a mopping pad that magnetically attaches to the stick vacuum. The pads don’t rotate or scrub; you’ll need to rely on your own elbow grease for that.

While convenient, it’s about as effective as a Swiffer. For deep cleans, I’ll still need my old standby, but I’m OK with that.

The Bottom Line: Is It Worth It?

What I Like

  • Strong suction power
  • Brushes don’t tangle easily
  • Excellent run time per charge
  • Easy to use/intuitive setup

What I Don't Like

  • Docking station is a bit bulky
  • Mop not as effective as others

yeedi

Yes! If you’ve just moved into a new home or you want to radically streamline your life, this mop-vac combo is an excellent option. It’s so well organized and efficient that, beyond a classic mop, you won’t really need anything else to get your floors sparkling.

Plus, the price is hard to beat for everything you get—and for the quality. At $900, it’s a fraction of the $1,400 iRobot Roomba Combo 10 Max. And right now, it’s marked down to $608 on Amazon, given the current 22 percent off sale and the $140 off coupon you can click to apply before adding it to your cart.
