Taco Bell Just Added the Dirty Baja Blast to the *Official* Menu, & It's a Liquid Key Lime Pie

Living the dream

Taco Bell Dirty Baja Blast

It all started with a girl and a dream. A dream of enjoying a vanilla-infused twist on Taco Bell's most iconic soda fountain staple, the Mountain Dew Baja Blast. Taylor Frankie Paul, influencer and star of Hulu's The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, started adding vanilla creamer to the drink, creating her own riff on the dirty soda trend. Then, she shared it on TikTok.

Now, she's living proof that dreams really do come true.

So true, in fact, that they can inspire dozens of people to follow suit, igniting such fervor that the Fourth Meal-famous chain itself takes note, giving her a golden Bell Award at its annual Live Más Live conference and officially adding the drink to its menus for a limited time.

So, naturally, intrepid reporter (and obsessive snacker) that I am, I had to try it myself.

While signs posted at my local Taco Bell promoted the drink, it's technically a digital exclusive, so the easiest way to snag it is by ordering online or via the app. (Pro tip: Order a medium on a weekday between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to snag it for $1, instead of $2.69*.)

On the app, it's listed as the Dirty MTN Dew Baja Blast Dream Soda, and it's described as having "sweet vanilla creme swirled in" to a classic Baja Blast soda. It turns the drink a pastel, nearly fluorescent pistachio, but the real surprise happens at first sip.

What Does the Dirty MTN Dew Baja Blast Dream Soda Taste Like?

This drink is sweet, with a bubbly effervescence that lingers with you. I typically consider Mountain Dew to be more sugary with less of that tingly pop that carbonation provides. Here, it stands out more on the backend, helping to cleanse your palate from intensity of the vanilla-lime flavor you get on the front end.

The vanilla creme adds, as you might expect, a creaminess that softens the typical Mountain Dew punch, making it taste like a liquid key lime pie, only without the tartness. There's an almost marshmallow-y flavor to it too. The more I sipped it, the more it seemed like this was the soda equivalent of Jet-Puffed Fruity-Fun marshmallows...and I didn't hate it.

Frankie Paul's creation made me suddenly understand the hype surrounding the prospect of Taco Bell serving a Baja Blast pie: A key lime pie with a sweeter, marshmallow-y twist? I could be into that.

As far as drinks go, if you're looking for something tropical-sweet, it's a satisfying treat. Especially if you snag it for $1.

Will I be toting creamer with me once the drink disappears from menus? Not likely. But if you're Team Dirty Soda, don't let me stop you. In the meantime, I'll be concocting my own Fan Style twist in hopes of snagging the golden Bell Award next year. Dream big, right?
