After Tasting Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie’s New Sonic Drinks, I’m 100% a Paris—Are You?

They’re hot…er, cold

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie can add another endeavor to their subway-train-long multihyphenate titles: nonalcoholic drink mixologists. It’s only fitting, considering they’ve done everything from serving as camp counselors to catching crawfish in the four seasons of their early aughts show, The Simple Life, and now that it’s being rebooted (Paris and Nicole: The Encore, now streaming on Peacock), what money-making realms have yet to be conquered? The drinks menu at Sonic Drive-In, obviously.

Yes, the bastion of what some deem the world’s best ice and one very chili-laden secret menu is now also home (albeit for a limited time) to two eponymous drinks from the “sanasa”-singing duo. But, in a universe where chains are churning out new menu items almost as fast as their French fry orders, what’s worth your lunch money? Fear not, friend: I took it upon myself to order both (like a lunatic, on a 32-degree day). Here’s how they fare.

The Paris Drink, Dissected

Dubbed “fruity & fun,” this ombré pink-to-gold drink practically glittered as the car hop skated it over to me. It, like The Nicole, seems made for Instagram with its over-the-top, colorful vibe. The drink features Sprite infused with Dragon Fruit flavor, and amped-up citrus flavor, thanks to the addition of lemon and lime slices. NERDS speckle the bottom of the cup, as well as the whipped cream topping.

Admittedly, I cringed before sipping this one. As cute as it looked, I’m not a fan of Nerds, and the whole thing screamed sugar bomb. But one sip in, my eyes opened, my shoulders relaxed and I was pleasantly surprised: It wasn’t as sweet as I had expected. The fresh lemon and lime helped offset its sweetness, resulting in a fruity flavor with a crisp, citrusy finish. Could I do without the whipped cream topping? Yes. Would it make the presentation less exciting? Also, yes. So I can see why it’s there.

The Nicole Drink, Dissected

If you enjoy a root beer float or Creamsicle—but aren’t so keen on orange—this is the drink for you. The Nicole is a dirty Dr. Pepper (aka Dr. Pepper with sweet cream and vanilla flavoring). It’s swirled with fresh strawberries, then topped with whipped cream and even more chopped strawberries. Going into things, I was more excited about this drink, and initially, it was my favorite. It has the creamy-smooth flavor of a Dr. Pepper float, and the fresh berries are such a refreshing touch. It oddly reminded me of chocolate-covered strawberries and Valentine’s Day?

After half a cup, though, the sweet cream started tasting too heavy for me, and I found myself reaching for The Paris (!) as a palate cleanser. The Nicole is like a full dessert in a cup; it’s something you enjoy on its own, whereas The Paris paired a bit better with fries and a Smasher burger.

The Bottom Line: Would I Order Them Again?

Kudos to Paris and Nicole for distilling the essence of their souls into soda-forward, candy- and fruit-speckled beverages. They’re a fun break from the ordinary, making them a pretty ideal callback to the enduring appeal of The Simple Life in the first place. So, while sweet, I’d order them as a stand-alone treat—much like you would a Frappuccino or milkshake—rather than a thirst-quencher to round out my meal.

Just note that they won’t be discounted during Happy Hour or Morning Drink Stop, and they’re only available for a limited time. So, if you want to live your Simplest Life, you better hit up the drive-in, stat.
