Avaline. Della Vite. Hampton Water. Celebrity-founded wine brands are a dime a dozen (and don’t even get us started on tequila). But while we love Cameron Diaz, we’re more interested in the self-starters, the first-time owners and the bootstrappers. Two women in the wine space we’re watching intently: Kristin Taylor and Macie Mincey, cofounders of KT Winery and their new brand, Mom Juice.
If the name alone doesn’t hook you, let us elaborate: This BIPOC-owned and female-founded winery got its start in 2021, when both Taylor and Mincey were introduced by a mutual friend. Taylor’s background in alcohol and event planning, and Mincey’s in tech and entrepreneurship, meant that the wine-loving duo had all the right ingredients. Then came the idea for their first label geared towards moms of all kinds (yes, including plant and pet moms), which uses Napa-grown grapes. “We wanted to create a new wine culture,” Taylor told Denver’s 303 Magazine. “I don’t want to be intimidated when picking my wine,” added Mincey.
Today, Mom Juice offers four varietals that are all gluten-free, low-sugar and vegan: a red blend, a cabernet, a sauvignon blanc and their newest launch, rosé. Wine isn’t their only specialty, though. Mincey launched the OnlyMoms podcast last February, and the company is projected to reach over $1 million in revenue this year.
“The best way to taste spices in a red wine like a Cabernet is to give a little gurgle so that all of that flavor comes through,” Taylor revealed. Mincey added that “Sauvignon Blanc and white sauce pizza is one of the best kept secrets.” Honey, cancel our dinner plans.
