Baby showers aren’t known for the most unique fashion or craziest looks right off of the New York Fashion Week runway, but it’s still important to look and feel your best. Plus, with lots of photos being taken, but the mama-to-be deserves some effort to celebrate her and her little one on the way. Most showers don’t have a specific dress code, it’s more of just an unspoken understanding of what to wear. So, if you’re unsure of what to wear to a baby shower, I have a few pointers on how to dress if you aren’t sure where to start.

1. Pastels and Feminine Silhouettes

Ruffles, sweetheart necklines, spaghetti straps, scalloped hems and more are gorgeous details that make for a cute baby shower look. Toss in some pastel shades and you’re golden. If you’re headed to a summer shower, make sure you opt for breathable and light fabrics like linen and cotton to ensure you aren’t sweating in sweltering temps. I also love the idea of going for a floral dress and pastel pumps to tie in the fun colors. Why stop there? Let’s pop on a chic handbag, too.

2. A Breezy Sundress

Personally, I live in sundresses during summer, and would happily wear one to a baby shower. A breezy maxi or a flouncy mini are great go-to options to wear to celebrate your bestie’s newest addition. They’re comfortable, they photograph well and there are so many styles to choose from. I love a good halter dress, but a wrap-waist silhouette is one of my favorites because it’s flattering and easy to rewear.

3. Monochromatic Pink and Blue

If the mom-to-be you’re celebrating has announced the sex of the baby or is asking her guests to dress the color of their guess, a monochromatic blue or pink outfit is the way to go. Don’t want to grab an all-pink or blue dress? Get creative and put together a sweet ensemble featuring the color of your choosing. Don’t be afraid to mix and match shades for the top and bottom, but you can also opt for a matching set. To break up the matching colors, grab an embellished bag or throw on a belt to separate the solids.

4. Shorts and Heels

This combination is sexy and summery for a warm-weather baby shower. I’d recommend staying away from denim shorts or any styles that are too short, and instead sticking with tailored shorts. You can go for a looser-fit shirt to add some dimension on top, just make sure you can tuck it in or it reaches the waistline of your shorts, since a short crop top might not be the move for this kind of event. As for shoes, go with whatever makes you most comfortable, though you really can’t go wrong with a 2- to 3-inch block heeled sandal.

5. Lots of Florals

Florals are a baby shower favorite, especially if it’s in the spring or summer. Sure, you can throw on a floral dress and call it a day, but you can also go for a pair of flower-laden pants with a simple white top to balance the pattern with minimalism. Don’t forget to accessorize a look like this with some layered necklaces and then, of course, a cute bag to finish it off.

6. Trousers and a Tank Top

If you’re more of a trousers kind of person, opt to style them relaxed with touches of femininity via cute heels and a fun bag. A flouncy tank top is a great option for warm weather and taking the business-casual away of the structure of a pair of trousers. A cropped pair that’s a lighter shade or even lightweight material like linen or cotton will add more of a breezy effect to your look.

7. Eyelet and Lace

Sweet materials and cutouts are a darling option for an event like a baby shower. From blouses to dresses, there are so many options to shop. Both eyelet and lace have a feminine and dainty look that looks great accessorized. Eyelet is a breathable option for warmer months, while lace is a classic material that can bring a chic, vintage vibe.
