8 Early-Spring Trends That’ll Put a Warm-Weather Pep in Your Step

After months of puffer coats and hair-flattening beanies, the end of winter is finally in sight. It’s so close, we can practically taste the rooftop bar rosé cocktails where, despite the fact that it is after 5:30 p.m., the sun still has not set. Luckily, we don’t have to wait until that magical day appears to start wearing some of spring’s biggest trends. Here are eight styles to try ASAP.

The Easiest Way to Decide What Shoes to Wear with Skirts and Dresses

Lavender

The official color of the year might be ultra violet, but we’re partial to this toned-down shade. Rock this soft pastel as a sweater, jeans, bag, jacket—really any style will do.

Statement Trench Coats

Trench coats are a classic, but it’s the bright, bold and unexpected versions that are stealing the spotlight. Find one in a vibrant floral pattern to keep you warm way into spring.

Polka Dots

Just like stripes or florals, it’s the perfect print for mixing and matching multiple pieces. Don’t be afraid to put together a complete outfit that has different sizes (or colors) of dots. In fact, it’s encouraged.

High-shine Leather

A slick patent finish isn’t just for your shoes. Switch things up with a shiny pair of joggers, a pencil skirt or a jacket. Pair whichever piece you choose with a casual tee and sneakers so you don’t look like you just popped out of the Matrix.

Get the look: Capulet skirt ($75); Palmer Girls x Miss Sixty pants ($173); Tory Burch jacket ($998)

Detailed Denim

Raw hems and distressed knees are fine, but the trend this spring is all about intricate and exaggerated details like bows, buckles and patches. Wear them as you would your favorite pair of skinnies to take your favorite go-to look up a notch.

Get the look: Tommy Hilfiger ($199); Topshop ($240); Alice + Olivia ($375)

Updated Plaids

Swap vintage browns and oranges for fresher colors like millennial pink, deep purple or anything pastel. And as long as both prints have at least one color in common, consider mixing and matching here, too.

Get the look: Free People tunic ($64); I.AM.GIA pants ($90); Halogen blazer ($99)

side stripe pants

Side-stripe Pants

Whether you’re partial to the sporty track pant or a more tailored look, a thick stripe down the side of your leg is super flattering and works to both slim and lengthen your stems. Just make sure the material has a nice sheen to it if you want to work them into a dressier look.

Get the look: Topshop ($65); by the way ($72); House of Harlow ($128)

belt bags and fanny packs

Belt Bags

Yes, it’s a fancy name for a high-end fanny pack. And yes, we now own three. But if you’re still not sure about wearing one at your waist, try draping it over one shoulder like a sash for a cool update on the regular crossbody.

Get the look: Steve Madden ($30); TwelveLittle ($60); Kate Spade New York ($198)
