Sarah Ferguson Shares Throwback Photo in Moody Butterfly Gown (and It’s Perfect for Fall)

This summer, Sarah Ferguson has been dishing out non-stop style inspo, whether she’s popping up in Cannes or wearing the most universally flattering color of all time (mint!) to grace the cover of HELLO!. That’s why we were thrilled to see her resurface a pic of her wearing a past-season floor-length floral and butterfly style from Alice + Olivia (snag a similar look here from Tuckernuck, $298). Even more fun, it’s a style she’s worn more than once.

Yes, the floral number was first pictured publicly on the Duchess of York back when she was promoting her brand-new podcast, Tea Talks, which debuted last year. The Duchess of York busted it out once again in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2023 to hand out an award to another York, ahem, Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte York on And Just Like That (and previously, Sex and the City).

The Perfect World Foundation award honors outspoken advocates for animal rights and biodiversity. Davis was recognized as the 2023 “conservationist of the year” for her efforts on behalf of this cause. Fergie, who is in town for the same event in Sweden this week, happens to be a very vocal advocate of the natural world, much like King Charles and other members of the royal family. She’s also a long-time ambassador for the cause.

Back to the dress: Not only was it on-brand for the occasion (florals! butterflies! nature!), moody florals are a reliable fall classic, according to PureWow’s fashion editor, Abby Hepworth. Fergie’s style feels romantic and dreamy, but more importantly, timeless and fall-ready. (Can’t you picture wearing something similar paired with a leather jacket or cute trench?)
