While I’ve had Sabrina Carpenter’s latest album on repeat since its release, I’ve also been eyeing her fashion. Now, I’m not a massive pop star with designers at my disposal, but Carpenter and I do have one thing in common: being a part of the 5’0” club. In order to channel her impeccable style, I’ve learned these seven petite style tips from the “Espresso” singer.

1. Go Ahead and Show Off Your Legs

The “Please, Please, Please” singer is known for rocking mini dresses and bedazzled body suits. I love how she celebrates her height rather than covering up. In fact, the shorter length gives the illusion of an elongated stature. Follow Carpenter’s lead and pair minis with high heels or platform boots for even more height.

2. Yes, Experiment with Long Dresses, Too

I’ve often shied away from long dresses, but Carpenter proves you shouldn’t be afraid to rock one—just look at her stunning Miu Miu number for the Vanity Fair 2024 Power of Young Hollywood event. Although the former Disney star might’ve gotten these designer dresses altered for her, there are plenty of pre-made gowns specifically for petites out there (and luckily I found a few alternatives below). Plus, sporting them all in a body con style is the icing on the cake for accentuating her figure and elongating her height.

3. Spice It Up with a High Slit Style

Like I already mentioned, Carpenter loves showing a bit of leg, and this thigh-high slit is right up her alley. Whether she’s rocking a daring look for the Time 100 Next or keeping it modest at a pre-Grammy gala, a high slit is flattering for petites. It’s a great way to appear taller and lengthen your legs, especially paired with heels.

4. Longer Outerwear Is the Way to Go

As Senior Editor Dana Dickey (who’s 5”3’) pointed out, long coats are not only suitable for our tall friends. This deep-V coat is a Sabrina staple and pairs well with her mini skirts or trousers. The oversize fit doesn’t overwhelm her height and instead evens out her proportions. Pair it with heels (or knee-high boots) and it’s a certified petite fit.

5. Always Have Pointy-Toe Shoes on Hand

The “Nonsense” singer loves a chunky heel or platform knee high boots, but sometimes she surprises us with a pointy-toe style that definitely completes the look—and flatters her 5”0’ frame. As Senior Commerce Editor Stephanie Maida (who’s 5”1’) previously shared, “The shape itself just works wonders to create the illusion of a longer leg and extra height.” Go for a matching pair for a monochromatic look or reach for a neutral pair to complement your darker tones.

6. You Can’t Go Wrong with Vertical Stripes

There’s a pattern Carpenter leans on time and time again: vertical stripes. Surprisingly, this works perfectly for petites, as one stylist previously told PureWow, these stripes can “create the perfect illusion and add height.” Go all out and rock ‘em from head to toe like the popstar did after walking the runway in Paris or just reach for one staple piece in your wardrobe. Regardless, it will surely get the job done.

7. Surprise! A Belt Is the Key Accessory

Let this be a lesson that a belt is not only useful to hold up your jeans. The pint-sized singer has worn thick belts on multiple occasions, proving the accessory is worth exploring on petite frames. It can help cinch the waist and accentuate curves, while making it look like you have a longer torso, as seen on Carpenter at the Loewe Menswear fashion show on the right.
