Sadly for me, Jennifer Garner and I have little in common (save for a shared love of these award-winning exfoliating pads): she’s an A-list actress, “Pretend Cooking Show” host, friendly farmer and self-proclaimed birder. Thanks to her avid posting on Instagram, I’ve always known she's a fitness freak—you don’t look that good without some hard work and dedication––but it wasn’t until I saw her most recent reel that I realized our similarities extend past the vanity and into the gym (I'm talking about the Brooks Glycerin 20 sneakers—were $160, now $100; more on these in a minute).

In honor of her reprising the role of the sai-wielding assassin Elektra in Marvel’s newest blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine, Garner posted a video of her high-intensity workout routine to commemorate her “superhero summer.” When reflecting on her return to the franchise, Garner shares, “I remember the moment @slevydirect and @vancityreynolds had the idea for Elektra Natchios to show up in @deadpoolmovie 3—we were on the set of The Adam Project and they gave each other this look they have that can communicate an idea, 20 pages of dialogue, nuclear codes—there is a crazy artistic kismet between those two.”

Aside from convincing her kids’ preschool friends that she was secretly a ninja (add it to the list), Garner hadn’t picked up her sais since 2004 and admitted that stepping back into the physically demanding role wasn’t as easy as it looked: “I was fit, but not @marvel fit.” To play the part and nail the stunts, she had to get serious in the gym––and serious she got.

Beyond her impressive workout routine filled with strength training, swimming, boxing, running, rowing (wait, I’m not done), sword fighting, rope jumping, kick-boxing, pumpkin lifting and an absurd amount of plyometrics, I couldn’t stop staring at the 52-year-old’s shoe choice: A light blue pair of Brooks Glycerin 20 I too have laced up more times than I can count, logging hours in the gym and hundreds of miles on the pavement while training for marathon season (exhibit A below).

As her video continued, I noticed a pattern. In almost every clip, no matter the modality, she had on a different pair of Brooks––and as a high-power celeb with the means to try pretty much anything, that’s some impressive brand loyalty. Here are the two Brooks sneakers Garner relied on to get superhero-ready (which just so happen to sit scuffed and worn on my own personal shoe rack).

Psst, Jen, you a size 9?

An editor favorite for a reason, these high-cushion running shoes provide neutral support and smooth transitions for a better run every time you hit the road. An instant rebuy the second the tread gets too worn down, they've gotten me through marathons, half-marathons and multiple training cycles.
