Trendy coats are all fun and games until you live in a fiercely cold winter climate (ahem, I’m looking at you, Chicago). Enter: Canada Goose. The Canadian brand is well known and loved for its coats that offer intense warmth, thanks to down insulation and detailed craftsmanship.

When I moved to the Windy City (from Texas, by the way), I was well aware of Chicago’s reputation for having bitter cold and snowy winters. After seeing locals decked out in Canada Goose logos come November, I knew my husband and I needed to invest in the brand for the winter. I wasn’t wrong: My Mystique Parka ($1,725) is my new best friend, and my husband loves his Langford Parka ($1,650). The long silhouette keeps my legs warm even if I have just my PJs on and the hood stays snug on my head despite harsh winds.

At $1,725, it's certainly a pretty sizable splurge, but as mom always said, you get what you pay for. Canada Goose jackets are handcrafted in Canada and go through a meticulous process to ensure that they’re fit for extreme cold. (If you’re in the market for a more affordable alternative, this North Face parka is a great option—for almost $900 less.)

Now let's talk styling. Figuring out how to look chic in a giant winter coat is no easy feat, but the design of these sleek, toasty jackets makes it a bit easier. This TikTok creator, @noorie.ana, shows how cute you can style a Canada Goose with different outfits for different activities. Here, the three best ways to wear a Canada Goose coat—and one to avoid in 2023.

1. Keep the Rest of Your Outfit Simple

Canada Goose jackets are a fashion statement all by themselves, meaning they should be the focal point of your outfit. The best way to do this is by keeping the rest of your outfit simple. A pair of straight-leg jeans with some simple but on-trend white sneakers and a baseball cap will give your outerwear the opportunity to take the spotlight. Underneath, we recommend a long-sleeve turtleneck or even a light sweater, because we’re not joking when we say you’ll be super toasty from the coat.

2. Go Monochromatic

No, this may not be a coat (it’s a super chic vest, which we’re also now coveting), but hear us out: Wearing a Canada Goose as part of a monochromatic outfit is a luxe look. The winter whites pictured here are a beautiful option, but we also love this idea in timeless black. From the boots all the way to the hat, stick to the same color (or shades that are very close) to achieve this sleek vibe.

3. Balance a Bulkier Coat with Daintier Pieces Underneath

First thing’s first: This combination is not for those ultra-frigid days when every inch of your body needs to be covered. Still, we love the juxtaposition of a dainty outfit layered underneath such a hefty coat for more manageably cold days when you still want to wear a skirt and tights. The patterned, sheer black tights and mini skirt create a cool contrast with the coat, while the sweater over a collared shirt will give the look a bit of dark academia vibes, too.

Don’t: Pair Your Canada Goose with Skinny Jeans or Too Many Colors

Now, there’s nothing overtly wrong with this ensemble, it’s just not the most modern option. The combination of skinny jeans and too many mismatched colors plants it firmly in 2012 territory. To keep your coat looking 2023-ready, try one of the suggestions above instead, OK?
