I’ve got the whole keys, wallet, phone thing down, but remembering my face mask? That’s not quite second nature yet. Which is why I’ve started seeking out ways to not forget my mask, by all counts. Because once you’ve driven halfway to the grocery store only to have to turn back around to grab a bandana-sized piece of fabric that attaches to your ears, it’s clear that something has to change.
And I’m not the only one seeking a solution. The search term “face mask chain” has been spiking on Google Trends, making this one of the most unlikely fashion trends of the moment.
Originally, I simply tied some elastic string ($3) through the earholes of my mask, so I could create an impromptu necklace. This hack has proven particularly helpful while I’m on hikes or nature walks that are mostly empty—it allows me just enough time to slip the mask loops over my ears when I see another person approaching. It also makes it easy to physically keep my mask on while I’m getting ready to leave the house, so I have it with me when I need it.
Not into the DIY look? Prefer a more S&M vibe, like the gal above? You could always invest in a proper face mask chain, that’s usually fashioned out of a sunglass chain. They seriously come in every style imaginable, from rainbow beads to simple gold and even large acetate links. Just make sure the one you’ve chosen has clips on either end, that way you’ll be able to attach and detach it from your mask as needed.
