As a royal reporter, I’m well aware that Sophie Wessex, Duchess of Edinburgh, and her husband Prince Edward have been working overtime to hold down the royal fort as King Charles and Kate Middleton both undergo treatment for cancer. But this week, they had a particularly special event: Commemorating the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale at Buckingham Palace. A historic occasion for sure—more on that later—but I couldn’t help but notice Sophie’s spotlight-stealing Strathberry handbag, $695.

Amidst the pomp and ceremony, Sophie chose to carry the Box Crescent style in duck egg blue and white (the brand refers to this hue as diamond) and bottle green. I love the structured square shape of the bag, but also its easy elegance and the fact that it can be worn multiple ways. (Sophie carried hers as a clutch, but this particular Strathberry style also comes with a wide leather strap and a gold chain, that are interchangeable and make the style extra versatile.)
Back to the color palette: The blue and white is said to have been inspired by the Ibiza landscapes—in particular, the blue sky and white-washed architecture there—but it also happens to be the perfect two-tone colorway for spring. That said, the style comes in a whopping 12 different hues. I’ve selected some of my favorite colorways below.
This is the exact two-tone style that Sophie chose to carry.
2. Strathberry Box Crescent Handbag in Sea Blue
Strathberry
Like I said, there are endless colors to choose from. This sea blue is another lovely (and spring-ready) choice.
Another lovely two-tone style, but this time the crescent silhouette is miniaturized.
Back to the significance of the Entente Cordiale: The ceremony celebrates Anglo-French relations and a series of agreements signed between the two nations in 1904 that laid the foundation for a long-standing relationship between England and France. Sophie and Edward were on hand to honor the occasion, but also to inspect the troops from both nations on behalf of the king.
Bonus points to Sophie for doing it so stylishly.
