1. A Shawl Collar Coat
On a visit earlier this year to Staffordshire, England, Sophie looked elegant and sleek in a midi-length wrap coat worn open and with a chocolate-colored boot. While the duchess chose to wear her style unbelted, we love that this oatmeal-hued jacket looks sophisticated either way. Pair it with jeans or—as Sophie did—a high-collared sweater dress.

Flashing back to Kate’s “Together at Christmas” concert last December—Sophie made a splash in a non-traditional holiday hue (a Princess Diana signature) and in a stunning pop of blue (how very queen-like to select a color that helps her stand out in the crowd). Her wool coat—which looks as warm as it is chic—is past-season from Suzannah London, which means it’s sold out, but you can mirror her look by choosing a subtle, yet eye-catching pastel that pairs well with neutrals (such as her white dress and brown boots) already in your closet.

3. Something Burgundy
Another “Together at Christmas” celebration (Kate’s first!) and another opportunity for Sophie to don an elegant coat. This one was way ahead of fall 2024’s best trend—burgundy—but also speaks to the versatility of the color and how timeless it will ultimately feel in your closet. In the case of Sophie, we love her choice to pair it with what appears to be a cream-colored trouser and taupe heels. As for the top in a pop of green? It’s the perfect festive touch.

4. A Field Jacket
Speaking of trends, a barn coat just might be fall’s number one jacket trend. While the royals often reach for it (we’re talking to you, Barbour), a field jacket a la Sophie offers a more polished and elevated spin. The details—like the gold buttons and military-style flaps at the shoulder, plus a belt that nips in at the waist—help a coat like this feel tailored and professional. It’s also more lightweight than a full-length wool coat to boot.
