Netflix Drops Thrilling New ‘You’ Season 5 Footage (& I Spotted Something Wild About That Final Moment)

Everything to know about the fifth and final season

Netflix just released the first official teaser for You season five. And if there’s one takeaway from the one-minute clip, it’s that Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) has learned nothing from the past five seasons.

In the teaser, Joe takes a walk down memory lane by returning to Mooney’s, the bookstore where it all began in season one. “Here we are, together again, back to where it began,” he says in a voiceover. “And the one constant, the one thing that has always been there for me is you.”

I immediately noticed a key moment at the 44-second mark in the video. After reminiscing about all his kills, the clip cuts to Joe standing in the see-through cage. He says, “Goodbye, you.”

The way the camera is angled, it appears as though Joe is looking through the glass at someone on the other side. Did someone finally capture him in the final season? Or is Joe literally saying goodbye to the glass cage once and for all? Only time will tell.

You originally premiered back in 2018 on Lifetime. Although it gained a cult following, the show was canceled after one season. However, everything changed when Netflix picked it up and turned it into a viral sensation.

In March 2023, Netflix announced that You is returning for a fifth and final season. In addition to Badgley, other cast members include Charlotte Ritchie (Call the Midwife), Madeline Brewer (The Handmaid’s Tale), Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect) and Griffin Matthews (The Flight Attendant).

The fifth (and final) season of You will hit Netflix on April 24.
