The announcement came straight from Netflix

Calling all Virgin River fans! We have an exciting new update to share about season six of the Netflix series. (Hint: It has to do with the show’s return date.)

This week, Netflix made a major announcement on the show's official Instagram account and gave fans a first look at the upcoming season by sharing new photos of the cast. The caption reads, "We’ve missed them so much! Get a first look at what’s ahead in season six. Counting the days until Virgin River comes back December 19th."

Yep, you read that correctly. Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) will be coming to a small screen near you just in time for the holidays. And until then, we can enjoy these early snaps from season six—including a rather intimidating shot of Dan (Ben Hollingsworth) and a sweet pic of Hope (Annette O'Toole) and Doc (Tim Matheson) bonding with a horse.

The account then invited fans to share their burning questions, and many sounded off in the comments. One fan inquired, "Are Mel and Jack going to become parents at last?" Another wrote, "What did Mel's dad tell her at the end of season five?"

We don't have concrete answers just yet but, while chatting with Netflix's Tudum in April, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith teased what fans can expect. He said, “Mel and Jack will advance on their path to parenthood while also turning Lilly’s farm into their ultimate dream home.”

He added, “Babies and wedding bells are never off the table on Virgin River.” (!!!)

Back in February, Netflix confirmed that production for Virgin River season six had officially begun. Along with a photo of Virgin River stars Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson (who play Mel and Jack, respectively) holding up film clapboards, the caption read, “It’s official! Virgin River season six is back in production!”

Just weeks ahead of the season five premiere, Netflix announced that Virgin River would be returning for a sixth season. In a past interview with Deadline, Jinny Howe (Netflix’s Head Of Drama and Development) teased that the story would continue beyond season five. At the time, she said, “I think we definitely see more longevity and growth with the show. As long as the audience asks for it and shows up—and I think we see with season four that the fandom is very strong and growing in many places as well—it feels like based on what we’re seeing with season four and the anticipation for season five that there is a lot more storytelling to offer us.”

We’ll mark our calendar and keep our eyes peeled for more Virgin River season six updates!
