Is T.R. Knight Returning to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’? New BTS Photo Sparks Rumors

There’s one big Grey’s Anatomy question that has been floating around for weeks: Is T.R. Knight (George O’Malley) returning for another guest appearance?

Well, there’s a lot of speculation online due to a recent behind-the-scenes photo that was shared on James Pickens Jr.’s (Richard Webber) official Instagram account. The pic shows Knight and Pickens Jr. standing alongside fellow Grey’s Anatomy cast members Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) and Kate Walsh (Addison Montgomery), who reprised her role in season 18.

The caption read, “Here’s another BTS from last month with the crew, have a great weekend!”

The photo might shock some fans, especially because Knight previously returned in season 17. Although it’s a throwback photo, many followers wrongly assumed that he’s back for round two.

One person wrote, “Omg, George O'Malley is coming back?” Another added, “What? How are George and Kate on the same set?” Someone even offered a potential future storyline, “We need George back. What if he faked his death, and it wasn’t him for a special military mission.”

As much as we’d love to see another reunion between O’Malley and Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), it doesn’t seem likely. According to People, Knight is not returning as George for Grey’s Anatomy season 18. The magazine reports that “Knight was solely on set visiting costars and shadowing a few people behind the scenes to learn some new skills.”

We’re thrilled that Knight is still working BTS, but we have to admit, this false bit of hope stings really badly.
