You may have heard whispers about Legally Blonde 3, a movie co-written by Mindy Kaling that was originally set to release in 2022. While it’s still in development, there’s fortunately a television show prequel to look forward to—and the casting search for the next Elle Woods has officially begun.
Reese Witherspoon Is Looking for a Young Elle Woods to Cast in the ‘Legally Blonde’ Prequel
Any Cosmo girl would’ve known
“As you probably know, we at Hello Sunshine are partnering with Amazon to launch a new television show called Elle, which is the prequel to Legally Blonde,” Reese Witherspoon explains in an Instagram video announcement while wearing a fuchsia-colored ensemble. “And today…we are starting the casting process. and we are making it open. This is an open casting for the young Elle Woods when she was in high school.”
“Our search for the high school version of Elle Woods is officially ON!” Witherspoon captioned the video. “With our friends @primevideo, we’re making the casting process totally OPEN, so you can submit your auditions at the link in my bio…I’m SO excited to see all your fabulous takes on everyone’s favorite Gemini vegetarian!”
According to the casting call, they’re looking for someone age 18 or older to play a 16-year-old white female. On the casting website, it says she should be “a driven, natural-born leader who will always stop to straighten another woman’s crown. With Bel Air tastes and an allergy to social injustice, Elle’s magnetic personality brightens the world with confidence, vulnerability and an earnestness that charms everyone around her.”
We don’t know exactly what the plot of the series will be, but the casting call explains that “coming of age in the 90s, Elle will encounter her first love and her first heartbreak, and she will find her moral convictions.”
Witherspoon announced the show in May with a fun Instagram video that showed her wearing a hot pink skirt suit and pale pink heels. “Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a regular ’90s high school girl,” she captioned the video. “And all of you are going to get to know her, next year on @primevideo. I’M SO EXCITED!”
Video applications are being accepted through October 25, and shooting is expected to begin in April 2025 in Vancouver, Canada.
