Here’s Why the ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Girls Are the Worst

It’s about time we address the unreliable characters in Pretty Little Liars.

On the latest episode of PureWow’s The Worst YouTube series, which is “a show where we dissect your favorite TV show’s worst characters,” creator Matthew explained why the four main characters on Pretty Little Liars—Spencer, Aria, Emily and Hanna—need a serious reality check.

Matthew began with a reintroduction to the plot of Pretty Little Liars, saying, “This is a show that follows four best friends—Spencer, Aria, Emily and Hanna—after their best friend, Ali, goes missing.”

He continued, “And we root for them as they make the worst decisions ever.”

Matthew went on to highlight each “liar” and offered specific examples about why Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Aria (Lucy Hale), Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Hanna (Ashley Benson) are the absolute worst. (Listen to the episode above to hear Matthew’s full explanation.)

The popular show debuted on ABC Family (now Freeform) back in 2010 and ran for seven successful seasons. (It even inspired HBO Max’s spin-off series, Original Sin.)

In addition to Bellisario, Hale, Mitchell and Benson, Pretty Little Liars also starred Sasha Pieterse (Alison “Ali” DiLaurentis), Ian Harding (Ezra Fitz), Keegan Allen (Toby Cavanaugh), Tyler Blackburn (Caleb Rivers), Janel Parris (Mona Vanderwaal) and Torrey DeVitto (Melissa Hastings).

One thing’s for sure: Matthew isn’t wrong.
