'Cobra Kai' Star Peyton List Dishes on Her New Paramount+ Series, 'School Spirits'

A chilling new mystery-slash-drama is coming to Paramount+, and we're already counting down the days.

Created by Megan and Nate Trinrud, the upcoming show, called School Spirits, will follow Maddie (Cobra Kai's Peyton List), a high school girl who discovers that she's trapped in the afterlife after getting murdered. With the help of her fellow ghost friends, Maddie sets out to find her killer.

By the looks of the trailer, School Spirits is giving major 13 Reasons Why vibes. And given her experience with darker roles, from The Friendship Game to The Thinning, it looks like List is totally in her element. But what led her to take on this particular role? PureWow chatted with the 24-year-old actress about her upcoming project, as well as her exciting new partnership with EVO.

While discussing her character, Maddie, List told us, "I love that the character that is dead from the first scene has to watch everyone else react to that. I was initially really drawn to that concept. And I also just love the character Maddie that the writers wrote. I think she's so strong, she's everything I want to be. I feel like she really fights for her life and fights for the people she cares about."

She continued, "I like that she cares so much and has so much heart. And then the writers are also making a graphic novel of the show and that felt fun to me too, to have that coincide."

In case you missed it, School Spirits, the graphic novel by Maria Nguyen and Megan and Nate Trinrud, will hit shelves in fall 2023.

List also opened up about the most memorable part of filming, which was getting to collaborate with the team.

"My favorite part was getting to work so closely with the directors, producers and writers," she said. "It was our writers' first time running the show. They were just incredibly collaborative. And everyone was ready to be gritty and do whatever they can, everyone was such a team on that show."

She added, "It didn't feel like there was a hierarchy at all, it felt very equal in all aspects, [with the] crew and everyone kind of collaborating together. I haven't experienced anything like that before. It was just sort of like grungy and quick and everyone worked really hard."

In addition to List, the series also stars Kristian Flores as Simon, Milo Manheim as Wally, Spencer MacPherson as Xavier, Kiara Pichardo as Nicole, Sarah Yarkin as Rhonda, Nick Pugliese as Charley, Rainbow Wedell as Claire and Alison Thornton as Chloe.

Paramount+ is set to air a total of eight episodes for the show's first season. After the 2-episode premiere on March 9, one new episode will drop each week, until the finale airs on April 20.

All we can say is, March 9 needs to get here, STAT.
