This brand-new film just replaced Jennifer Lopez’s The Mother as the most popular movie on Netflix.

Missing just hit the streaming service on May 20, and it’s already claimed the number one spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched movies. (It’s currently ranked ahead of The Mother, The Son, Ted and A Man Called Otto.)

Missing is a follow-up film to Aneesh Chaganty’s Searching (2018), but it doesn’t require prior knowledge because it’s a “standalone sequel.” The story follows a teenager named June Allen (Storm Reid) who was raised by a single mother, Grace (Nia Long). Although she loves her mom, their relationship is rocky thanks to her mother’s new boyfriend.

Everything changes when June’s mom suddenly disappears while on vacation in Colombia, forcing June to transform into an online detective and use technology to track down her whereabouts.

In addition to Reid and Long, the film also stars Megan Suri (Veena), Ken Leung (Kevin Lin), Joaquim de Almeida (Javier Ramos), Tim Griffin (James), Amy Landecker (Heather Damore), Daniel Henney (Agent Park), Joaquim de Almeida (Javier) and Thomas Barbusca (Cody).

Fans are loving Missing because it gives viewers an opportunity to solve the mystery themselves. The movie is riddled with clues that come together to create a full circle ending, and if you miss them the first time, you can watch it a second time to see what you missed.

As if we needed an excuse to break out our detective hat.
