Dearest readers, it seems as though Bridgerton season three will be worth the wait.

Netflix just released the first official trailer for Bridgerton season three, which has the tagline: “Even a wallflower can bloom.” The clip offers a rare glimpse into what’s to come, focusing on the love story between Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan).

The clip begins with a voiceover from the one and only Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews). “Dearest gentle reader, we have been apart for far too long,” she says. “At last, London's fashionable set has made its return. And it seems that our bon ton is moving with the changing tide. So, too, is this author.”

The trailer goes on to tease the relationship between Colin and Penelope, which starts off as platonic. “If a husband is what you seek, let me help you,” Colin says. “Are we not friends?” To which Penelope hesitantly replies, “Friends.”

Plus, Colin’s siblings don’t totally approve of their courtship. “She’s not seeking a husband in you, I hope,” Eloise (Claudia Jessie) says. Colin adds, “No, I’m merely helping her find one.”

However, once Colin sees Penelope getting attention from other men, he starts to question their friendship. “Mother, do you believe the best foundation for love is friendship?” he asks.

The trailer concludes with another quip from Lady Whistledown, saying, “What this author knows to be true is that diamonds are not the only gems that sparkle. What is the primary force that guides us along our paths? Is it our minds or our hearts?”
