I’m sure you’ve seen the videos. The aftermath of a regenerative foot mask. Skin peeling from every crevice. The heels, the ankles, between the toes. Shedding like a snake during their monthly ritual. Well, as someone with callused, rough feet caused by years of wearing my beloved Dr. Marten’s, I knew I needed to do something about them. I’ve tried a number of methods things over—from masks and exfoliators to pumice stones and lotions—with little to no luck. It was time to take drastic measures, so I decided that I would test out StackedSkincare’s Multi-Acid Foot Peel Duo by Kerry Benjamin.

Dubbed a more eco-friendly alternative to the Baby Foot Exfoliation Foot Peel, the StackedSkincare Multi-Acid Peel Duo is the first of its kind. Each box comes with a pair of reusable silicone booties, a bottle of liquid multi-acid foot peel and a mesh bag for storage. To use the mask, you pour one ounce (equivalent to four capfuls) of the acid mixture into each bootie and wear them for an entire hour. In theory, the acid is supposed to break down the dead and worn skin on your feet, allowing them to peel and shed, leaving new smooth, “baby soft” skin in its place. Here are the results of my little experiment.

The Prep

To prep my feet for the exfoliation, I needed to clean them with soap and water and make sure they were thoroughly dried off. For the mask to work its chemical magic, there needed to be no additional moisture on my feet. This way, the salicylic acid and allantoin could penetrate deep within the skin, exfoliating and conditioning the toughest parts of my feet.

The Process

After prepping my feet, I added the recommended four capfuls of the multi-acid peel to each bootie and slipped them on. The booties fit a women’s size 7-10 shoe, so they were a bit roomy on my size 8.5 feet. I wish that they came in multiple sizes because although I was careful, a tiny amount of the acid peel sloshed out of the bootie while I was padding around my apartment. To be fair, I probably should’ve just sat still for the hour. All that said, they were very comfortable; the silky silicone felt perfectly cushiony against my heels.

The Results

The thing about foot peels is that you don’t how they’re going to affect you until a couple of days after the treatment. For StackedSkincare’s version, the peeling likely won’t begin for about three to five days and can last up to five to ten days. The instructions also said to bathe normally and to avoid applying moisturizer during the peeling process unless your feet become uncomfortably dry, in which case, you can put on an oil-free moisturizer.

Immediately after taking off my booties and washing my feet again, I noticed that they felt very soft and some of the harder skin near the balls of my feet and heels were starting to flake a little bit, though that’s probably a result of my feet being wet for an hour.

A few hours after using the mask, the skin on my feet felt tighter and seemed to snag on my sheets and blankets more.

Day 2: On day two, the skin on my feet began to feel even tighter. I worked out at the gym and got a blister on my ankle from sneakers that have never caused me any issues before. I assumed my post-peel skin was a bit more sensitive and likely rubbing against my socks and shoes.

Day 3: By the time day three rolled around, I started to see the slightest bit of peeling at my ankles, but nothing major.

Day 4: On day four, the peeling started at my heels and toes with one large, loose patch on each heel. The skin that had started to loosen resembled huge blisters, but instead ended up being dry patches. So that the dead skin didn’t get in the way, I carefully trimmed away anything that wasn’t attached to my foot so as not to disrupt the peeling process.

Day 5: Despite knowing there was a chance people would see my peeling feet, I decided to head to the beach on day five. This was where things got wild. What had started as mere dry spots on my feet turned into full blown patches of skin curling over, mostly concentrated on every part of my foot except for my toes. It got to the point where I had to carefully pick off the larger flakes because sand kept getting stuck in between the dead and fresh skin. (Ew. I know.) In hindsight, it makes total sense that the peeling went off the rails at the beach. Sand is a natural exfoliant after all. I spent a majority of the afternoon tucked away in a tent to protect my freshly emerging baby skin.

Day 6: On day six, things calmed down a bit and the peeling that continued was minimal. But this is when my toes and the skin between them started to peel. I also noticed that even the toughest skin on my heels, calluses and bunions was getting easier to scrape away in the shower.

As of now, I am seven days out from using the mask. The larger flakes are gone, but there's still a tiny amount of peeling that's exacerbated after a shower, but nothing too noticeable.

StackedSkincare’s Multi-Acid bundle includes enough peeling solution for three treatments and they recommend using it once a month for best results. They also note that the more often you use the mask, the less skin will shed as a result of having healthier, more moisturized skin emerge. I will say that my hardest calluses are still there, but in much better condition than they were pre-treatment and overall, my feet are softer than they’ve been in a long time. I think that with repeated use over the next couple of months, the mask might become my holy grail.

Is The StackedSkincare Multi-Acid Foot Peel Duo Worth the Money?

I think that the multi-acid peel will be worth the money for some people—especially if you’re looking for a more sustainable option than a throw-away foot mask. The bottle has enough solution in it for three treatments. Even still, I acknowledge that shelling out nearly $100 might be breaking the bank for some folks. But given the fantastic results, it could be worth the investment for those with problem feet like mine.
