3 Zodiac Signs Always Getting in Their Own Way

Two of them are water signs

Whether it’s due to overthinking, stubbornness or a perfectionist streak, there’s a fine line between self-care and self-sabotage. As an astrologer, I see so many clients who think that they’re struggling with other people when really they’re struggling with themselves. We all of course have these moments where it feels like the universe is working against us, but if I’m being real, there are a few signs who can’t help but complicate what should be simple. Here are three of the signs who are always getting in their own way.

1. Virgo (August 21 - September 22)

Out of the three cardinal sins of getting in your own way—overthinking, stubbornness, and self-sabotage—Virgo struggles the most with overthinking. As a sign ruled by communication planet Mercury, Virgo is always buzzing with ideas and information. But more often than not, these musings can become big worries and major anxieties for Virgo. Virgos are fixers who are willing to move mountains for the people they love. But Virgos also have a tendency to make mountains out of molehills. What keeps Virgo stuck in these kinds of loops is that despite it all, they’re still extremely high functioning while engaged in self-sabotage. The best thing for Virgos to do is to stop trying to fix things for others and focus on themselves instead.

2. Taurus (April 20 - May 20)

If you know anything about astrology, you probably don’t need me to tell you that Taurus’ cardinal sin is stubbornness. As our zodiac’s fixed earth sign, ruled by love and beauty planet Venus, Taurus is like a cow out to pasture: happiest when everything is steady and in its right place. But this insistence on comfort can often leave Taurus stuck in a rut that they absolutely dug themselves into (then got exhausted, fell in the mud and were too lazy to pick up the shovel again to dig themselves out again). Taurus self-sabotage plays out in three distinct stages. First there is a long period of denial in which they insist that everything is fine. Next, when they can no longer hide their pain, they make a habit of complaining while still insisting everything is perfectly OK. Then they wake up one day and decide to end the relationship, quit the job or confront their sister in one fell swoop of defiance. (This is especially true for those who have Mars in Taurus.) Once you get them going, Taurus solves problems quickly, but it takes them forever to get started.

3. Pisces (February 19 - March 20)

Perfectionism—one of the cardinal sins of getting in one’s own way—doesn’t seem like a Pisces problem, but when it comes to love and relationships? It absolutely is. Pisces is the sign of universal love and acceptance. These compassionate mutable water signs can see the best in everyone, find love for every outcast and stray dog, and befriend a lot of “fixer upper” types. But because Pisces can be so loving, they also can be very idealistic when it comes to their own closest relationships. Pisces will often deny themselves love, friendship and affection because of some misdirected feeling of not being good enough themselves or wanting to find the “perfect person.” Pisces transcend this perfectionism through learning to love themselves as much as they love everybody else. A difficult lesson but one that really pays off once it becomes a habit.
