4 Zodiac Signs That Are 100% Cat People

zodiac signs cat people

Do you like your pets independent and low maintenance? Do you prefer that your furry friend has a dry sense of humor? If so, you’re probably a cat person. According to a 2010 study at the University of Texas, cat people tend to be more “creative, philosophical or nontraditional” when compared to dog people. Unfortunately, “nontraditional” is often taken in a derogatory way with the trope of the “crazy cat lady.” Rarely do dog people get such flak for loving their furry friends (or living with 12 of them). But there also might be an astrological reason you prefer keeping cats as companions. Here’s our breakdown of the signs that are definitively cat lovers.

1. Capricorn (december 22 – January 19)

Like cats themselves, Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn. (Yes, all animals have a ruling planet!) Saturn is the planet of structure limits and responsibilities. And think about it, don’t cats reward us for acknowledging their boundaries? If you’re not living up to your full potential, Saturn—like all of the best cats—will totally throw you the side eye. Capricorn is associated with the more earthy side of Saturn—the long-lasting structures we build to contain the mess of our lives. Cats don’t give up their affections easily, and usually we have to prove our worth before they cuddle up to us while we’re watching TV. Capricorns are totally down for the long game of winning over their pet. Success requires effort over time.

2. Aquarius (january 20 – February 18)

Aquarius is the sign that arguably has the most cat-like personality. Also ruled by diligent Saturn, Aquarians can be distant, eccentric and have a reputation for being somewhat limited in their affections. Aquarius represents the air (or social) side of Saturn. Aquarians are free thinkers who often charm their furry friends through silly games and frank conversation. But also like a skittish adopted kitten who goes from hiding under the couch to making muffins on your chest after a period of adjustment—once an Aquarius has decided they love you, they get very clingy. Never one to smother with love, Aquarians treat their cats like they would any other friend. Aquarius appreciates that cats know that love requires difference and separation. Space is key.

3. Leo (july 23 – August 22)

We couldn’t write about cat people without including the zodiac’s top feline: Leo! Though they’re literally cats themselves, attention-seeking lions have more of an opposites attract relationship with their furry friends. Leos are ruled by the sun—the big, hot fiery ball that is the center of our human existence. Cats, on the other hand, are ruled by Saturn—the furthest planet from Earth that can still be seen by the naked eye. One glows expansively while the other is cold and distant. In other words, cats keep Leos humble, grounding them in their domestic life when they’d otherwise be galavanting all over town. Leos also love how photogenic their cat friends are, sometimes even preferring to share pictures of their pet over a selfie. Now you know that’s real love!

4. Pisces (february 19 - March 20)

Pisces are often thought of as the chillest sign of the zodiac. So of course Pisces prefer pets who are low-maintenance. But the Piscean affinity for cats goes deeper than just a clichéd laziness. Pisces’ sixth house of daily maintenance is Leo, so of course they want to be surrounded by little lions in their everyday life. Pisces, like cats, take a lot of pride in their personal upkeep and spend a lot of extra time (and money) on self-care. Pisces cat owners are the type who feed their kittens the bougiest wet foods, spend hours everyday brushing their fur and have multiple Pinterest boards filled with designer cat condos and towers. The Egyptians worshiped their cats, and as far as Pisces are concerned, so should we.
