The One Conversation You Avoid at All Costs, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Every sign in the zodiac excels at some things and totally struggles with others. The same is true for conversations, with some subjects being naturally interesting to one sign, and totally repulsive to the next. Want to stay in every sign’s good graces? Here are the topics you should avoid at all costs.

Nobody likes getting in trouble with their boss, but with Aries’ desire to get everything right and their dislike of being “bossed” at all, they particularly hate it. They don’t have a problem with authority...when they are the authority. When they’re not in charge, Aries have a hard time receiving constructive criticism and will avoid performance reviews like the plague—or literally pretend to have the plague to get out of them. In the end, it’s all just another reason why they needed to be elected President of the World, like, yesterday. 

Nobody—and we mean nobody—hates surprises more than a Taurus. Seriously, if you want to do something mean to a Taurus, throw them a surprise party. Except don’t do that because they will probably find a way to leave after five minutes and then you spent all that money on cake and balloons for nothing. A Taurus loves nothing more than being comfortable and in control, which is basically the opposite of being surprised. Anything that takes them out of their comfort zone or requires a change of plans is totally off-limits to them. Don’t even try it. 

Ah, Gemini. We’re not saying you’re afraid of commitment. We’re just saying you have trouble sleeping because you’re scared commitment and hiding under your bed. No sign is more likely to run for the hills as soon as a relationship starts getting serious than a Gemini, and honestly, it’s not you...it’s them. Geminis hate being tied down in all its forms. Sure, they know what they want now, but what if they want something different tomorrow? I guess what we’re saying is, don’t be surprised if your “Hey, do you have time to chat this week?” text to a Gemini gets left unread for one, if not several, days.

It’s not that Cancers don’t care about the state of the world, it’s actually quite the opposite! Cancers are so sensitive that they care too much about the state of the world, making them feel anxious and overwhelmed when they’re expected to discuss it in casual conversation. You may be able to make a joke about the ice caps melting without your brain immediately envisioning dead polar bears, but Cancer can’t. When discussing the news with Cancer, stick to positive topics like unlikely animal friendships, or anything Beyoncé has done lately. 

Leos love the spotlight, so when it’s on someone else, they’re bound for an internal (or very public) hissy fit. Sure, your story is interesting. But you know what’s more interesting? Leo’s story. So sit down and hand over the mic. While Leos can be extremely generous with their friends when it comes to gifts, it’s harder for them to extend that generosity to sharing conversations. If Leo has something to say, best to just sit back and enjoy the Leo Show. It’s going to continue whether you’re watching or not. 

You know those people who instinctively say “FINE!” as soon as you ask how they are? Yeah, that’s Virgo. Virgos are very sensitive and private people, meaning they’d rather have a tooth pulled than tell you their life story. This can be a refreshing quality when you’re sick of having people give you their full résumé right after being introduced, but it can be kind of problematic when you’ve been friends with a Virgo for five years before finding out they have an identical twin. Oh, and don’t even think the word “icebreaker” around them. Trust us.

Why can’t we all just get along? Super-friendly Libra hates conflict of any kind, especially when voices are raised. Even a particularly explosive episode of Dance Moms can leave a Libra feeling totally freaked out. If a Libra is going to be around yelling, they’d prefer it be of the “OH MY GOD THIS IS AMAZING!!!” variety. Anything else, and they’ll be out the door before anyone even figures out what people are yelling about. 

Scorpios are very jealous creatures. They’re always looking for a reason not to trust somebody, and when there’s a childhood bestie, work husband or ex that’s “just friends” involved, it can make them go a little crazy. No matter how platonic the relationship actually is, Scorpios will find a way to get jealous about it. For example, if you say “that guy commenting on my photos is my cousin,” Scorpio might respond, “Well, it’s actually legal to marry your cousin in six states so…”

Spare Sagittarius your talk about the weather, weekend plans or whatever is going on in the Twitter universe because they want none of it. Sagittarius is a seeker of deep truths, so unless you want your opener about how it’s raining to somehow turn into a conversation about climate change affecting weather patterns, don’t even try it. They find themselves instantly bored to tears by filler conversation. Basically, if Sagittarius is talking, they want it to be about something meaningful. Or at least mildly interesting.

We typically tell people to own up to their mistakes, but if you’re talking to a Capricorn, maybe don’t. Capricorns are extremely hard workers and enact a strict “no BS” policy, especially in their professional life. It makes them amazing coworkers (you can always count on Capricorn to start the meeting on time) and absolutely terrifying bosses. (Think: Miranda Priestly.) They don’t make mistakes in their daily life, and neither should you. Consider yourself warned.

Boundaries? Limits? What even are those? Aquarians hate having any constraints on their life in any way, shape or form. Regulation of any kind is bound to get under their skin, even if it’s just an in-flight safety video. Any conversation about rules, limits or “how things are done” is gonna be a big ol’ no from Aquarius. Particularly if it involves slowing down on the highway.

Pisces are naturally empathic, meaning they take on the moods and feelings of those around them. So you can imagine how exhausting it must be for them to be in a crowd. A room full of 50 people means 50 different emotions for Pisces to take on, so it’s no wonder they’re known for Irish goodbye-ing whenever possible. It’s not uncommon to find Pisces in the back room of a party, chatting with a more intimate group of people, rather than staying outside and taking on the emotions of everyone else trying to order at the bar.
