When looking at the overall astrology of 2024, I could see there was going to be a major shift over the summer, on both a personal and collective level, beginning with this week’s full moon. On the 21st, the second full moon in Capricorn of the year arrives. What was first revealed at the full moon on June 21st comes to another culmination here. Something that’s felt slow to build picks up major momentum now.

The sun moves into Leo on the 22nd bringing a much needed dose of Vitamin D and a mood booster to lift our creative spirits. Then on the 25th, Mercury moves into analytical Virgo, an influence that helps us focus our scattered attention and create practical next steps.

(Horoscopes follow for each sign. If you know your rising sign, reading for that sign too will provide further insight.)

Aries (March 21 - April 19)

During last month’s first full moon in Capricorn on June 21st, the next big move for your career or overall life direction was revealed. This was something very different from what you’ve been doing over the last few years (or even the last decade). What did you initiate a month ago? Have you already seen growth here or are you still trying to figure out where to begin? Leo season (from the 22nd) is your most creative and romantic time of the year. It’s time to engage in some outside the box thinking to get what you really desire.

This week’s mantra: “Create.”

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)

This summer’s first full moon in Capricorn on June 21st had you excitedly initiating travel or study plans with a close friend or sibling. It’s been a month now: have there been any further developments in that part of your life? If not, the second full moon in Capricorn on July 21st is a chance to reclaim your wisdom and desire to learn. Leo season also begins on the 22nd which is a time of year that finds you spending more time at home. How can you make your house a more vibrant place?

This week’s mantra: “Wings.”

Cheeky illustration of identical twins with long dark hair and a statement earrings back-to-back, smirking at each other.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)

Last month’s full moon in Capricorn on June 21st left you feeling like you don’t have enough or there’s something missing. This week’s second full moon in Capricorn on the 21st brings up some of those same feelings but even stronger this time. Have you been able to get out of your head and more into your body? If not, the shift into Leo season on the 22nd puts your focus on your closest relationships and immediate environment to help you stay grounded.

This week’s mantra: “Plant”

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)

For last month’s (June 21st) full moon in Capricorn, I wrote you this: “[This full moon] illuminates the ways you may have neglected your closest relationships in this time of inner turmoil. As you leave your own difficult period, who needs your support?” How have your relationships grown over the last month? Have you had to sacrifice anything? Leo season begins on the 22nd and brings on a time of focusing on personal resources. Instead of focusing on saving, perhaps it’s time to be more generous.

This week’s mantra: “Generosity.”

Cheeky illustration of a woman of Asian-descent wearing a sheer coral top with her hair half-up in pigtail puns, the rest down. She is hugging a lion, who is smirking.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)

Back at last month’s first full moon in Capricorn on June 21st, I advised you to pay attention to what obligations need attention now vs. what can wait for later, keeping this koan in mind: “If you can do something about it, why worry? If you can’t do anything about it, why worry?” If you’re still struggling to find balance, this week’s full moon on the 21st gives you the momentum you need to get through any remaining slog. Then on the 22nd, your season begins and you’re finally feeling fully like yourself again.

This week’s mantra: “Embody.”

Virgo (August 23 - September 23)

During last month’s full moon in Capricorn on June 21st, I wrote to you: “the full moon brings creative fuel and a reminder that success means nothing if you’re not having any fun.” How have you allowed your creativity, artistry or romantic side to blossom over the last month? This week’s full moon on the 21st brings another checkpoint on this path. Remember that you’re in charge of claiming your desires. Leo season begins on the 22nd and launches your quietest and most introspective time of year. Give yourself space to meditate so you don’t spiral into anxiety.

This week’s mantra: “Float.”

Libra (September 23 - October 21)

During last month’s first full moon in Capricorn (June 21st), I asked: “What steps do you need to take to ensure a more solid foundation?” Now I’m curious if you’ve had a chance to take any of those steps. If you haven’t, this week brings a big push to settle scores with family, start apartment hunting or make moves on securing a mortgage. Yes, Leo season (from the 22nd) also puts you in the social spotlight, but it’s most important to find balance between what you’re putting out there and what you’re getting in return.

This week’s mantra: “Foundation.”

Scorpio (October 22 - November 21)

Around last month’s first full moon in Capricorn on June 21st, I brought up the importance of building skills and cultivating close community. How have your connections grown over the past month? If you’re still feeling stuck in the same place, the second full moon in Capricorn on the 21st brings even more options to your immediate environment. Once Leo season begins on the 22nd, you’re in the spotlight. How do you want to show up as a leader in your immediate circle?

This week’s mantra: “Collect.”

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)

During last month’s first full moon in Capricorn, I asked: “Is your cup being filled? How can you build back your confidence?” After a month of doing a lot for other people in your life, the second full moon in Capricorn on the 21st brings your attention back to these personal needs. If you feel stretched thin by the obligations of the last few weeks, now’s the time to take your power back. Leo season (from the 22nd) is about planning your next trip or educational journey. What’s the vision for your big adventure?

This week’s mantra: “Expand.”

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)

As we finish off Cancer season and begin Leo season this week, you’re very wrapped up in your closest relationships. This is about the relationship itself as well as the resources you share. The full moon in Capricorn on the 21st (our second of this summer) is yet another reminder that your entire life can’t be focused on other people. Say it with me again: your most important relationship is the one you have with yourself. Though it might feel uncomfortable to state your needs and get that attention, it’s a very necessary part of your growth.

This week’s mantra: “Me.”

Cheeky image of a Black woman with blue hair on a light blue background. She's holding blue water in her palms, which is bubbling up and taking shape as her hair.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)

Back at last month’s full moon in Capricorn (June 21st), I shared these thoughts with you, Aquarius: “[This] is a reminder to take a step back and take a break. If taking a pause causes immediate anxiety, that’s also important to note.” This week’s full moons puts you in that same distant, contemplative, and possibly stressful place. Are you using this as a time to meditate or are you spiraling out? If you haven’t already established self-soothing tactics, the sun’s shift into Leo on the 22nd provides some warm support.

This week’s mantra: “Calm.”

Cheeky illustration of a gender-fluid white person with short-cropped orange hair. They're wearing a light blue halter top as two bright pink koi fish circle their head.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)

Last month’s first full moon in Capricorn (June 21st) came as a reminder that it’s important to cultivate your friendships and community connections, especially if you’ve been focusing more on dating than making friends. This week’s second full moon in Capricorn reveals how far you’ve come over the last month (and since January) in prioritizing community connection. Leo season then begins on the 22nd lighting up your house of service and encouraging you to get involved in a cause you believe in.

This week’s mantra: “Contribute.”
