Remember the uncomplicated thrill of going back-to-school shopping as a child? Nothing was spoiled yet by having a strict teacher or a bullying classmate or an unrequited crush seated across the room. Joy was an empty notebook and an unsharpened pencil. Everything was new and for the taking. September’s astrology offers us this kind of cosmic reprieve. After a turbulent summer, it’s an opportunity to get ourselves back on track. The New Moon in Virgo on the 6th is an especially auspicious day to make a list and set sail for brighter tomorrows.
The one catch for the month arrives on the 10th, as love planet Venus moves into Scorpio followed by action planet Mars moving into Libra on the 14th. This shift sees the two planets of interpersonal connection moving into each other’s signs. Venus doesn’t particularly love being in Scorpio and Mars doesn’t particularly enjoy being in Libra. Compromise is necessary for everyone to get what they want.
Despite this month’s emphasis on Virgo’s need for control, the Full Moon in Pisces on the 20th reminds us that sometimes it’s better to just go with the flow. This is an especially important lesson to sit with once Libra Season begins on the 22nd—happy birthday to our balanced and passionate babes. Libras are true icons of their craft, from Naomi Watts to Bruce Springsteen to Serena Williams.
The month concludes with communication planet Mercury stationing retrograde in Libra on the 27th, which kicks off the more challenging astrology that’s waiting for us in October. If we pull ourselves together now, we won’t be totally thrown off course when some unsettling truths reveal themselves later in the season.
