This Costa Rican Resort Just Opened a Sloth Sanctuary and We’re Booking a Trip ASAP

costa rica sloth sanctuary hero

There are many reasons to book a trip to Costa Rica—lush rainforests, incredible hiking opportunities, flawless beaches and zipline adventures, just to name a few. And now you can add another activity to your vacation bucket-list: paying visit to a sloth sanctuary.

After planting 300 new Cecropia trees on the property, staff at the Nayara Springs and Nayara Resort, Spa & Gardens noticed a significant uptick in the number of three-toed sloths hanging around the hotel (at least 15 sloths now call the resort home). They even started offering complimentary walking tours for guests through the sanctuary twice a week.

Even if you don’t want to partake in the walks, the tropical tree’s sparse branches mean your chances of spotting a sloth are pretty high just being at the resort. And if that wasn’t motivation enough to book a trip, you might be able to enjoy some celeb spotting as well. We bet Kristen Bell will be visiting at some point.
