With so much natural beauty and the locals’ affinity for elves (seriously), the whole island is pretty damn magical. But Seljalandsfoss waterfall, located in southern Iceland, is truly breathtaking, and walking behind it (yep, that’s a thing) is a must-do for any visitor. Just don’t forget to bring your raincoat.

Victoria Falls, Zambia And Zimbabwe
Located on the Zambezi River, the largest waterfall in the world can be heard from 25 miles away. But you can actually get up close and personal to this UNESCO World Heritage Site by exploring it via the many bridges around and staying at hotels or campgrounds nearby. (There are lush national parks on both sides of the river.)

Plitvice Falls, Croatia
One of the most popular attractions in Croatia, the Plitvice Lakes National Park features a series of waterfalls that connect 16 turquoise lakes. Summer is the most popular time to visit, but winter can be just as beautiful when the lakes freeze over and the waterfalls turn into beautiful ice sculptures.

Niagara Falls, New York
No list of falls would be complete without this famous attraction. Niagara’s three waterfalls straddle the border between Canada and the United States. There are plenty of ways to explore this impressive site, but donning a poncho and hopping aboard the Maid of the Mist boat tour is definitely the most fun.

Iguazu Falls, Brazil
If you think that three waterfalls are impressive, get a load out of the 270 that make up Iguazu Falls, located in the Atlantic rainforest between Brazil and Argentina. The many powerful cascades of water create massive clouds of mist, but it won’t keep you from spotting some of the local wildlife like colorful toucans or cheeky monkeys.

Nestled in the heart of the national park, this staggering waterfall is worth the trip for its impressive size (it’s California's tallest) and surrounding beauty (hi, giant Sierra redwoods).
