Whether you're in the market for kid-friendly homes near Disney World or cozy locales in upstate New York, you know you can always count on Airbnb to provide the perfect stay. But now, the home rental site wants to take your vacation to seriously iconic new heights—literally, in some cases. At Airbnb's 2024 summer release conference held on May 1, the company officially announced the launch of Airbnb Icons, a collection of "extraordinary experiences from the world’s greatest icons." Remember when Airbnb recreated Barbie's Malibu DreamHouse for guests to book last summer? Yeah, that was only the beginning.
This year's lineup of iconic Airbnb destinations and once-in-a-lifetime experiences spans the worlds of movies, music, art and sports, so there's a stay fit to make anyone and everyone's getaway dreams come true. "As life becomes increasingly digital, we’re focused on bringing more magic into the real world," said Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky at the launch, starting with one of the most magical new offerings of 'em all: Carl Fredricksen's house from Up.
Families obsessed with the beloved Disney-Pixar film can snag a stay in an IRL version of the home, brought to life by Airbnb in Abiquiu, New Mexico. From the trinkets lining the mantelpiece to Ellie's personal Adventure Book, the cozy cottage and its contents have been meticulously recreated for guests to immerse themselves in. And, thanks to the more than 8,000 balloons tied to the roof (and, ahem, the massive crane on standby), the house actually floats up, up and away—just like in the movie. New heights, indeed.
