Do you really need a recipe for pizza bagels? Probably not. But we’re just here to remind you how delicious they are…as a snack, or a kid-friendly lunch or dinner. (You’re welcome.)

The key to the best pizza bagels is all in the ingredients: cheap grocery store bagels (we like Thomas brand), pre-shredded mozzarella cheese and your favorite jarred tomato sauce. The less fancy you get, the better these will taste (but feel free to go all out with toppings).

Ingredients

2 plain bagels, halved

¼ cup jarred tomato sauce

24 to 32 slices pepperoni

½ cup shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese, divided

Freshly ground black pepper and crushed red pepper flakes, optional, for serving

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.

2. Arrange the bagels slice-side up on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Divide the tomato sauce equally among the bagel halves, then top each with 3 to 4 slices of pepperoni.

3. Sprinkle half of the cheese evenly over the bagels, then top each with 3 to 4 more slices of pepperoni. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese.

4. Bake until the bagels are crisp and golden, and the cheese is bubbling and starting to brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Serve with freshly ground black pepper and crushed red pepper flakes, if desired.
